signal fade or loss

Hi,

Has anyone ever experienced signal fade or loss in their car or truck. and if so, how long does it take to regain signal?? How do tall buildings affect signal reception?? Is it the same as multiplexing while receiving an FM broadcast?? Please reply.

satelite radio can be affected by buildings tunnels or anything that can interfere with signal.

There's no signal fade since it's digital. If the signal is blocked from the antenna it will play until the buffer memory runs out then stop until you get reception again. Here in the Phoenix area if the satellite signal gets blocked it will switch to the local broadcast so the reception is not interrupted.

yes, HEAVY rain can obtruct the signal as can other objects like trees but I have found a properly installed antenna minimizes these conditions to almost non-existant. And as mentioned before, XM uses terrestrial repeaters in many metro areas. Sirius does not have repeaters.

In short, you won't be disappointed.

Man, that's cool !! Here in the Great White North you are SOL until the signal comes back. Just got myself a 2007 GMC Sierra crew cab with factory installed XM radio. It is neat but I do sometimes get signal blockage. In all fairness however it amazes me how the dang thing works at all. Now if I could only figure out how to set the station presets... (as an absolutely LAST resort I will consult the manual).

I do encounter signal blockage but usually only bridges, but the funny thing is my bank drive through blocks the view of the XM Sat and somehow still gets signal, every other attenuation for me i'm SOL too.
I never can get signal when its cloudy, my buddy does. so whats the deal with that? And yes my antenna is positioned properly for best performance. -Will
