I have had Wild blue for over a month and i would be willing to try to answer questions people might have.

Let us know about your experience and product review of Wild Blue so far. Did you install it yourself? How is the download / upload speed?

i would recommend webtv before wildblue. just kidding, it is very expensive middle of the road dsl speeds, sometimes its just awful. wildblue has a real strict FAP (fair access policy). if you are up or downloading a lot you have to be real careful not to go over your alloted bandwidth for the month. if you do go over your limit wildblue will decrease your speeds to tortoise for one month. when this happened to me it forced me to buy the next higher priced package they offer bringing my bill to like $69.95 a month. what really pisses me off is that verizon and time/warner cable stop just short of our neighborhood. BUT, it rules if thats all you can get!

I have had WildBlue for almost 2-years (right most dish in my avatar pic) and my family is very happy with it. Sure if we could get DSL/Cable/FIOS we would switch in a heartbeat, but they are not available in the sticks. I tried EVDO Rev A briefly, but am on the edge of coverage so the speeds were kinda up and down.

If you go with WildBlue read the contract so there won't be any surprises. I chose WildBlue over the Hughes/DirecTV satellite specifically because of the FAP policy. If you like to do large downloads (+200MB) quickly from time to time, WB is best. WB gives you full download speed until you exceed your 30-day download/upload limit. If you downloaded flat-out for 24-hours you would exceed your FAP and have to wait a month for normal speeds to return. If you manage to exceed your FAP primarily due to a monster day of downloading 29-days ago, you could be restored to full speed in 24-hours. The Hughes FAP kicks in a lot sooner, but then has a quicker recovery period.

I have WB running my home network in Russell, PA. Like N4ST, I was on an EVDO modem in a fringe area until WB became available. Same price, MUCH better. I currently see two risks with WB: 1. Like all satellite-internet providers, you're at the mercy of the installer. A bad installation make for poor performance. 2. Ka band and a small dish have me concerned with winter coming and snow/ice on the dish. I plan to spray Kings on the dish to de-ice it, but the heavy cloud cover/snow may cause problems.

If you Google "Wild Blue forum" you see a link to WildBlue Uncensored. This is a trade rant forum where you'll learn more that you wanted punctuated with adult language. I went with it anyway, but it was good to go in with my eyes wide open.

WildBlue Uncensored does have good articles about the current state of the spot beams, equipment failures, and optimizing your computer without using the company software. I would recommend anyone that really works their computer to visit the forum.

I am moving in about 2 months, and I am seriously condisering getting WildBlue, of course because I am moving to a very rural area. I have one MMO or online game that I play and won't give up so easily. It is not the most high end game. Does anyone think I could still play it with WildBlue?
Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this. I know one thing its not so much the download speed as it is the upload speed for MMO's. Would I be looking at high ping and packet loss? What kind of bandwidth can you get with Sat internet?

Your ping time is going to be greater than 1000ms. The upload speed is a bit shaky at times too. I work in VA and have cable, but I really have to trim/tame my Internet habit when I'm in PA on WB. I really suggest you ask around in your MMO forums to see if anyone is on a satellite connection.
