vtv4 is on a weak transponder as bobkat said in a earlier post you may have to go to a larger dish to receive it I am getting it at about45% quality on a 36 inch dish and around 60% on a 8.5 ft dish so for this channel bigger dish = better signal.

I was going to start a new thread but forgot how to. Anyways, I'm having problems picking up 97w satellite. A few weeks ago i started a thread, stating that i wasn't getting the program but now i'm using a 90cm dish and not getting any signal to the satellite.
I just received my 90 cm dish a week ago and decided to set it up today. I was up on the roof for bout 3 hours trying to get a signal until it rained. I had my 20" t.v, a signal finder up on the roof trying to get a signal but all i got was a solid beep from the signal finder. No matter where i aimed my satellite i was getting a constant beep, couldn't figure it out. I checked all my connections and all was good.
Someone please give my some input or suggestions. I'm in California and I'm aiming the satellite to 145 azimuth direction, after setting the azimuth i played around with the elevation moving the dish up and down with no luck. Like I said, all i'm getting is a constant beep.
One more thing, is the scew setting really important? On the STB what values do i enter. On the LNB facing the dish, does it matter how many degrees counter clock wise? Because when i setup on the old dish a couple weeks back i just switched out lnbs and everything was good. Had to get a new dish cause i was getting major pixelation and the audio was skipping bad.

try dropping the elevation on your dish by3 to 5 degrees fortec 90 cm dish elevation scale can be off this much, yes skew is important set it as close as possible to recommend specs.

O.k the elevation on the satellite angle locater says its 44 degrees for my location(cali). your saying i have to drop it about 40-42 degrees, right? my roof is inclined a bit so i was moving the dish to about 48-52 degrees. Still I was messing with it going left to right then up and down.
Could you explain the constant beep from the satellite signal meter? I only get the noise when i turn the knob up. Before I didn't get any noise only when i'm picking up a signal. I know this because i watched the quality go up a little in past settings.

This must depend upon where in the USA you happen to be.
I found 97 nearly immediately while trying to home in on my south sat! I was looking for 89 or 91 and was on 97!

with these meters you have to adjust them so the needle is in the center and they just start to beep as the needle starts to climb re adjust the meter back to the center continue to do this untill the needle don't climb any more this is max signal point. also if your mount is plumb you do not have to adjust for roof angle. yes i would try it at 40 degrees and see what happens if that dont work go the other way some of these dishes had to be 5 degrees lower and some had to be 5 degrees higher.

I agree, but I wanted to make sure everyone was talking about the same meter, ie those SF95 or whatever it's called? Reason I ask is that those meters are more of a squeal than a beep, whereas a DTV receiver's meter goes beep beep beep. But like you said, I set the meter mid scale, at which point you'll find a place where the pitch is on the verge of changing, and if you adjust to just below that, you will get a pitch increase when you get closer to the sat. But if it is adjusted too high or low, you either won't get a pitch change or you won't get any sound at all. I've also found that once you're close to the sat, that you're better off looking at the meter reading than listening to the pitch. Those meters are so touchy though, that I also like to attach it to something fixed so that I'm not moving it around as I adjust, because sometimes it changes pitch/reading just moving the meter.
Those meters are also often fooled by strong DBS sats near a weaker linear sat, so using them is somewhat of an art.
