free to air help...........t5...birddog

Hi everyone. Iv'e owned the birddog for a while now, works great.
My question is about free to air..and the bird dog.
This is my first and i need to get telestar 5 from my location, i have done the position check for my area and know the angles that should do the trick. But my Question is about the v and the h what do thay mean and why is there two choices for them for uploading to bird dog... which do i need and why?????.
Thanks in advance

For linear polarization satellites the Birdog can lock onto either the vertical or horizontal transponder - at least this is my understanding of how it works. I notice for some linear satellites (like AMC 4 for example), the Birdog finds AMC 4 on "V" but not on "H", so that's why I downloaded both V & H settings from the Birdog configuration menu. Hope this helps.
