22khz tone tip for BIRDOG

I have added a tip for the BIRDOG to use it with UNIVERSAL LNBFs. See middle of the page here: http://sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Acces...gnal_meter.htm

Also, another tip: If you use the BIRDOG and don't have a 22KHz tone generator, make sure you carry with you a STANDARD type LNBF. Your customer might be using a UNIVERSAL LNBF.

Many times, we get calls from customers claiming that the LNBF is bad. We ask, why? their answer is because their installer said so. He can't get a signal using our "UNIVERSAL" LNBF from T5 with his BIRDOG or Spectrum Analyzer. Of course he won't. The Universal LNBF requires a 22KHZ tone to switch to the high band which covers transponder frequencies between 11.7-12.75 ghz. Without that tone, the LNBF will not receive those freq and the BIRDOG will not see it either.

Or sometimes the installers use their own receivers to aim the dish. Not noticing they are working with a UNIVERSAL type LNBF (when their receiver is set for STANDARD type LNBF), they waist several hours trying to figure out why can't they get the SIGNAL QUALITY. The answer is simple, all they need to do is switch the LNBF tyoe in their receiver to UNIVERSAL, and voila' the quality will show up quickly.

So, please installers, read and understand the above carefully. Make sure sure you know the difference between the different types of LNBFs out there and how your should approach each type. Read the label on the LNBF or its box so you know what you are working with. Save yourself some precious hours and headache.

God bless!

That was an old link. You don't need it anymore since Birdog now supports Universal type LNBFs. Just go to the update website and download the UNIVERSAL settings for the satellite your want to work with.
