Biloxi Mississippi

HI, I just returned from a trip to Biloxi, Mississippi... just to visit the Casinos and try my luck.

One question--There seems to be a VERY large Vietnamese population in Biloxi...The Casino actually had signs in English, Spanish and Vietnamese?? I found it unusual for such a small city to have such a large immigrant population.

Does anyone know how large this population in Biloxi is? How long has there been such a community in Biloxi?

I think there is a great opportunity for FTA in Biloxi if somone is interested in opening a store there!

Re: Biloxi Mississippi

Talking about Vietnamese population in the US:
California: Orange County, San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco.
Texas: Houston.
About VTV4, it is obviously a propaganda channel from Vietnam, which is not welcome by most of the Vietnamese in N.America. Don't get me wrong, it still has some very good programs such as movie, sports..., but be aware if anyone wants to open a sat store aming at the Vietnamese community, you might get some unexpected re-action from those who are anti-communist. I live in N.California, where the Vietnamese population is much larger than Biloxi. I once thought about doing FTA system targeting at the Vietnamese, but for the political reasons, I gave up my plan. Well just my opinions.

Yes, I listened to the Vietnamese Public Radio last night. They announced that the new channel will be available some times by the end of April. Vietnam is not communist anymore. The gov is now more concern about money, but for us who immigrated to the US, most still not forget about the horrible things which happened in the past.
Any ways, in my opions, VTV4 is still a good channels. Idon't watch news....:-)
Just watch movies, sports....

If the news is all about bragging, then they don't have to be communist to do that. All you have to do is watch news on Oman, Yemen, Kuwait, Dubai TV, or any of the other Arabic TV stations and all they talk about is the "King" did this, and the "Prince" did that... All a bunch of ego centric rulling families no different than any communist rulling parties  .

I did not intent to stir up this thread to be a politics stuff...:-)
Yes, Vietnamese gov is still communist. What I am trying to say is all the high-ranking folks are now more concern about $. No more "ly' tu+o+?ng" like in the past. Don't get me wrong. My familly were their vitims as well. That's how we all end up living here, right....:-)

Communist Television

Hi..

Ok, I guess I started this thread with my ignorant question about Biloxi Mississippi...

Speaking of Communist nations and their television programming. I do not speak Vietnamese nor Arabic, so I really cannot speak to these countries or their television programming. As a Spanish speaker, I have found that Cubavision is quite reasonable when it comes to politics.
Yes, they have there political slant a la Fidel Castro with a little Hugo Chavez mixed in--but, most of the news programming I have watched closely resembles the perspective put forward by the major Spanish stations available on Hispanisat--Cubavision also quite often uses CNN and TVE feeds when reporting on the War in Iraq for example.

My point is this... I see no real propaganda in the news broadcasts, just a left of center slant. The only real, true propaganda is contained in Speaches given by Fidel Castro and occasionaly by others who share his views....Hugo Chavez for example. (I heard Chavez refer to GW Bush as a "pendejo" or "a-hole" not less than 5 times in a one hour speach).

At night they often have music videos of Cuban artists. The music is actually quite good and is not censored... the standards of taste seem to be no different than any other latin american country.
