setup help
Hi all. Please help me out. I have a Fortec Star 31" dish, single universal LNB model FSKU-V, and a Viewsat-2000. Will I able to watch VTV4 with this setup? Thanx for your help.

Yes you can, assuming you live somewhere in North America.

Thank you William and Newbiesat for your quick replies. I do have another question. I want to connect the same dish to 2 receivers or even 3. Which switch should I use? Will the switches that came with the receivers work or do I need to buy a different one?

On the back of the receiver, there is a pass through connection, you can use that to connect to other receivers, but only the first one can control polarity.

William, so does that mean the receiver connected to the dish need to be on for the other receivers to work? Do other receiver brands have the same pass through connections or just the Viewsat2000? Please excuse me for asking silly questions as I am very new at FTA

pretty much all receivers has the pass through option. your best bet would be to install a dual lnbf and another cable and you could watch 2 receivers at the same time on different polarity at the same time.

Let's put it this way. Is VTV4 the only channel you and your family are interested in?? If this is the case, then I would suggest doing the pass through connection. If there are other channels you want to see, then you might want to go with a dual LNB and adding another cable which is the more expensive option, but I don't think you would be interested in the other channels anyway. Take a good look at Lyngsat.com , if there are other channels you want to see.

Thank you William and rainman. I think I am clear now. So for 2 receivers to operate independently, I will need a dual LNB. I will need 2 rg6 coaxial cables routed directly from the LNB to each receiver.
My original plan was to purchase a multiswitch to split the signal from one LNB to multiple receivers. Will this approach work as well? Or should I just save the money and invest in a dual LNB?

I would go with the dual lnb that way you can watch one program and someone else can watch another program in another room.

I think this would be an appropriate option if there were more Vietnamese channels on IA5. Unless of course this user has family members who understands other languages or are very religious. Splitters cause more problems because the signal is weak to begin with. This forum is filled with users complaining about not getting a strong signal from that transponder.

Even with a multiswitch you still need a dual LNB; the MS won't function with a single LNB. Bottom line -- rainman and William Eng are right -- go with a dual LNB for two receivers and run separate coaxes to each receiver. The VTV4 transponder is pretty weak and the fewer db-hogging devices in the line the better.
