Can I use either of these LNB's for FTA

I have a couple of LNB's that my brother rescued from a former installer, one is a "dual satellite quad output from starchoice" the other looks to be a "single with dual output for ExpressVu Dishnetwork Canada". Both are pistol grip type, the starchoice one says sat A and sat B on the top and the outputs are marked Ports 1 thru 4, model name is MSDC1631AA and the manufacturer is Samsung. Its has linear polarization and it is for use with the 60E dish. The other LNB has a model number BSCH83P81 with no manufacturer claiming responsibility. Any help with these would be greatle appreciated.

Thanks

The StarChoice LNB is a dual-bird internal multiswitch model; ports 1 thru 4 handle up to 4 receivers.

The ExpressVu LNB is a single-bird linear LNB that ExpressVu used in the early days when they were on Anik E2. When Bell Canada Enterprises bought control of ExpressVu DishNetwork Canada (hence the current name Bell ExpressVu) they launched their own satellite (Nimiq 91) and now they have another (Nimiq 82). These are both circular polarity birds and so now ExpressVu can share hardware with DishNetwork; everything including the LNBs -- so the old linear LNBs are useless for ExpressVu but great for Free To Air !! I use them exclusively as they are very reliable and pull in a decent signal.

Thanks very much, but to use the old expressvu LNB how would I hook up the 2 ports I have a 4 way diseqc switch with one dish hooked up already and I would like to get something pointing at Galaxy 10, I thing I'll try the starchoice LNB there and when I get a third dish I want to go AMC 3.

Simply take one output from the ExpresVu LNB and connect it to one port on your DiSEqC switch, then the other dishes connect to the other 3 ports; but if you have this many dishes I would suggest getting a motor for your dsih -- way easier.
