Successful connection to T5 - Thank You
I know these postings are mainly for installation support/questions, but I wanted to report my successful connection to T5 with my 90cm dish from Northern VA, and also, I wanted to thank everyone for posting to these forums. I read many of these messages before going up and making my final dish adjustments, so I had an idea of what to do and what to expect. Thanks a lot.
This was a big effort for me, since I needed to do a roof mount but received a mount designed only for side wall or ground mounting (non-elevated surfaces). I ended up building my own tripod-like mount for a roof installation for my heavy Fortec 90cm dish. My mount is very solid (all points screwed into rafters) and I used lots of sealant! Later, I will post a link to some photos that I took, in case anyone is interested. My roof on my 3 story, south-facing townhouse is ~18 feet above my deck. Imagine lugging a 90cm dish up that thing. :P Thank goodness for 300 lb.-rated ladders.
If this means anything to anyone, my elevation was calculated at 40.5 degress, but my Fortec 90cm received 100% quality at the 35 degree marking. Maybe my mast was off a tiny bit. I never tightened bolts so slowly in my entire life. After a second round at tightening them, my quality only slowly went from 100% to 90%. But, that's pretty good and I can see what I want to see.
Receiver: Fortec 786v3
LNBF: Fortec Universal 0.50 dB Single KU
Dish: Fortec 90cm
Location: Northern VA
Thanks again,
Andy O.

HeHeHe
Welcome to the world of FTA dish installations!! Now imagine lifting a 1.2 meter Winegard dish up two stories onto a roof and mounting it to a 2 1/2" diameter pole. That was a chore, let me tell you!!
Congrats on getting the job done and getting such an excellent signal strength -- well done !!!

Re: Successful connection to T5 - Thank You
Andy,
Good job...:-)
Feel free to post questions if you run into any problem. We are here to help each other...:-)
Michael
PS: For now, just play with T5. If you really like this hobby, look for a H-H mount to move the dish.

Thanks and my dish setup page link
Thanks again. As I mentioned earlier, here's a link to my satellite dish setup photos (~100K page), in case it helps anyone in anyway (probably not  ) :

The mount is patent pending. I'm kidding.
If that dish falls down, my face is gonna be real red! ops:

Nice work.... One nice mount....
If you get a chance to go up on the roof again, I would recommend you tie the Coaxial cable to the LNBF Feedarm. You could use electrical tape or ties. That will prevent the cable from coming lose off the F-connector when you have wind and/or heavy rain. Other than that, looks good.
The reason for adjusting the elevation on the dish to 35 instead of 40.5 is that your mast might not be perfectly at 90 degrees. It looks off a little from the pictures.
Good job and deserves a 9.5/10
If you had secured the coaxial cable with ties, you would have received a 10/10

I was trying to act like the Olympics judges..hehehe... They pick on little things
Securing the cable is very important. That is why I wanted to point that out also for others to avoid any future problems with their installation.
