Norsat LNB?

Hi ,
When we bought our house, It had a BUD sattelite in the garden professionally installed. It is a mesh sattelite (Brand: Perfect 10).
It has a Norsat LNB that says KU band dated 1994.

I bought a fortec lifetime reciever and conncted the sattelite to the reciever and I get up to 82% signal but no quality.

I just want to get any sattelite I can( T5 ....) . What parameters should I put in the reciever for frequency of the LNB ....?

Is this LNB compatible with FTA ?

I want to get telstar 5.
the lnb has some info in it.

I think the gain is .8
the FREQ is a latter, but I can't read it.

Might be something wrong with the lnb?

It has a KU band LNB but no C band LNB ?? Sounds like a fixed dish to me -- does it have an actuator arm on it to move to different satellites? Give us more info - take a picture of it and post it here.

I finally got T5 KU!!

Yeah, I can move the dish around with loosing some screws.
The LNB has frequncy A selected on it (from A B C .....)
The NF is 0.9
the gain is 0.6

Is this norsat LNB a good LNB?

thanks

Norsat is one of the best out there.

Glad you found signal on T5

I have some questions.

What are all the transponders mean on the same sattelite?
What is the difference between them?

Since the lnb is from 1994, is it old (not supporting new channels, frequncies.....)?

If I want to get G10/KU is there an "active" transponder that I can select when I take my reciver and TV outside for easy installation as Sadoun said?

Thank you very much

First thing you should do is get an actuator arm so you can move the dish electrically rather than loosening the screws -- and if you loosen the screws that I THINK you are going to loosen you will throw the dish off the arc - bad news. Pick up an old C band analog receiver for like $50 and use it to move the dish and polarity motor and then surf for satellites with the Fortec receiver. Check around on eBay for old C band receivers or call up a local satellite shop. Quite often they have an old analog receiver lying around in the back gathering dust.

:?

BTW - the age of the LNB has nothing to do with what kind / how many channels it can receive.

"LINKY ALERT !!!" Here is a link to what is out there on T5 ---> http://www.lyngsat.com/t5.shtml

Is an actuator arm the same as a HH motor?
Does sadoun sell it?

How about if I get a smaller sattelite and not buy the whole actuator, reciever,......

what does a BUD offer that an small sattelite doesn't?

Thanks alot for your time
Have a good weekened
Shahin

An actuator arm is similar to an HH motor except that it is meant for BUDs whereas an HH motor is meant for minidishes. The actuator arm is a telescopic arm with a worm drive whereas an HH motor is sort of like one of those old TV antenna rotors.

The good thing about having a BUD is that you can easily add a C band LNB as well as the KU LNB you already have and then you've got the best of both worlds; since the Fortec can receive C and KU band signals it would be great to be able to have a dish that can pull in both -- and you have one. A smaller (mini) dish cannot receive C band signals.

I realize it will be an outlay of cash to set up the BUD ($200 for actuator arm; $ 50 for C band LNB; $100 for C/KU feedorn; plus the SatPack cable and polarity motor; plus the $50 - $100 for a used C band receiver) but you will be happy with the results.

Check out www.lyngsat.com and see what is out there free-to-air; you will soon see that C band has lots to offer.

Thank you.
Your answer was very helpful.

I will look for an actuator arm, with a reciver that can controll the arm.
What is the feature that can controll the arm called?
how come the fortec star can't controll the arm?

So if I get these 2, I can easily switch between KU satellites right?

I will later on get the c-band lnb and the horn...

Best regards,
Shahin

The feature that controls the arm is called a POSITIONER and virtually all C band receivers have this built in since the whole idea of C band was to move the dish to bring in many satellites.

The Fortec receiver - and most other FTA receivers - do not control the arm because most folks use a minidish and an HH motor - the Fortec WILL control HH motors. Its just that most people don't have C band dishes anymore and the circuitry to move the dish is fairly expensive to build in, it takes a big power supply to move the actuator arm -- that's why the old C band receivers were so heavy!!

So if you find an old C band receiver (with positioner built in) and buy an actuator arm you should be all set to surf the KU band. Then later you can add a C band LNB and dual feedhorn and surf the C band as well.
