Quest For A Signal: Part I

Ok...I finally purchased a complete system today. Its the new Fortec Lifetime package. It should arrive this friday. I'm excited ! The people here at Sadoun was really helpful and pleasent to talk with.

So as a good little Satellite newbie, I wanted to check with the people here to make sure I'm going to do this by the book.

My main concern right now is: 1) Elevation coordinates and Azimuth 2)Grounding

1) I live in North Salt Lake; zip (84054). I'm using a motorized Dish so this is what I came up with. Please tell me if I have this correct.

Motorized Dish:
LNBF=0
Dish Elevation P=42.8
Azimuth=180; True South=165 by subtracting 15 from 180

My question is, do I use the True South Azimuth coordinates or the Azimuth without subtracting. I used the value (15) because I'm right in the middle of the two compass headings.

is where you can find this link.

2) I'm a little nervous trying to figure out where to ground the grounding wire. I read the install manual and I really dont know where to attach this wire to.

I want to thank bobkat for answering my last posts. I think this guy should be on someones bank roll. I look forward to learning more from you and the rest of the team here.

:lol: :lol: Someone's bankroll??? LMAO!!

Its just my hobby - no fees incurred or charged. :lol: :lol:

Thanks for the words of kindness. I try to help out as much as I can around here.

Your coordinates look OK - use the true south heading (165) to aim the motor zero position at.

As for grounding, I never do it. But if you really want to ground the system what you do is get some of that RG6 coax with an internal tracer wire (like the kind that comes in the RCA install kit). Hook the internal tracer ground wire onto the dish assembly then connect the other end to a grounding block (also in the RCA install kit) and connect the grounding block either to your electrical panel ground, a cold water pipe or a 4 foot grounding rod (copper) driven vertically into the earth.

Good Luck

I havent recieved my system yet but I still have a question that I havent seen posted yet. I know it has but I just havent seen it any where.

Anyways, take a look at this photo: http://sadoun.com/Sat/Products/Forte...mple-Stab2.JPG

It shows a dish and a motor. Ok, my question is, what coordinates do I set up my dish and what coordinates do I use for my motor. I know my motor, I think which is posted above but what about the dish itself. See there are two little bolts you move to fix in the coordinates. So in other words what should I set the dish inclination since I have the supposed motorized coordinates already?

Thanks Again.

Hello Again:

Check out this link; it has all the calculations you need to figure out the dish elevation.

Has anyone thought about putting a GPS based AutoLocate feature in receiver firmware? The reveivers all mostly have serial ports. I think that would save an insane ammount of install time, especially with motor driven dishes.

Very wicked. I was going through all of the little charts and stuff to calculate True South, subtracting this, adding that, and I thought 'geeze I have a gps why do I have to do any of this!'

I actually have my gps coordinates of where I want the dish installed. I was kind of hoping I could punch them into something to get the Magic Numbers I'd need to align the dish for the first time. Trying to cut down on first timer frustration and all that. I do happen to have a digital camcorder and dvd writer.. maybe I'll make a newbie installer video replete with mistakes I just ordered the number 4 special from Sadoun's 'complete installs'.
