Please Help!!!...Signal strength, but no signal quality

Hello everyone,

I got signal strength between 68 and 72, but nothing on signal quality when i tried to lock on the Telstar 5. I live in fountain valley, Ca zipcode 92708

I have a samsung 3700 system which included a samsung 3700 receiver, a standard samsung high gain LNBF, and a 76 cm Dish.

I have a directv at home getting 90 to 98% signal....so it can't be the trees or power lines problems for my free-to-air system rite?

Please tell me what i should do to get the signal quality

Thanks

No quality issue:

I'm rather new to this also, but have not adjusted the dish since I first got a good signal and quality. Signal is about 82. You probably have to play with elevation a little more, but I would try moving the rotor loosly by hand to get a higher signal first. millimeter by millimeter, then move the elevation on the dish. I would also recheck you tilt angle on your lnb, I'm sure you have one being your in calif. I rigged up my positioner and the dish with turnbuckles, which made it easier to move very slowly till I got a signal with small increments of elevation. You probably better off taking a small tv with your receiver up to the roof and make adjustments that way. If you send me a lat and long or just zip and what other system components , I will refigure your calculations.
Have a Good Day.

By the way

Ocman, are you using a fixed dish or do you have a motorized dish?
Also go to Sadouns SUPPORT page and click on the Dish Elevation, Azimuth and LNBF angles part of the page, here you can get some calculations for fixed and motorized dishes. Also get a good compass, I bought one at walmart for about 10.00 or here at Sadoun for a little cheaper price, the previous one was really in bad shape. It made a difference to have a new compass also.
art. Will get back with you tomorrow p.m.

Your Signal issue

Ocman, dont know if you got up and running but,
for a FIXED DISH pointed to T5 in you zip, your LA IS 33.71, LONG 117.95.
ELEVATION is 50.8°, Azimuth is 180 geographic (minus anywhere from 14 to 19) for magnetic deviation depending exactly where you are in Calif. See Sadoun's support page for calculations. So that means for example get 180° and subract 14 from it, then this is where you point the dish which is 166°, then try moving millimeter by millimeter, till you get a good signal. Zero degrees is north, then moving clockwise East is 90° and South is 180° and West is 270°.
For a MOTORIZED DISH: The angle on the motor is set to your Latitude if using a HH100 or HH120 motor which would be set to 33.71°. On the dish itself you Elevation is calculated by the following formula:
°P-(60-latitude), which is 50.8-(60-33.71) ='s a dish elevation of 24.51.
Your tilt on the LNBF is zero, in other words is perfectly level on the dish.

Someone else may have some more input, but do you have a FIXED dish or a MOTORIZED dish?
