Hi All:
I have a 90cm Fortec Dish, Universal Fortec FSKU-V LNBF, HH-90 motor and a Fortec Lifetime Ultra Receiver. The dish sits atop a 8 foot pole. I also purchased a small (2x3") sat finder meter that you place in line between the motor and the receiver.
I have been trying to follow the
installation instructions, but I am not clear on several points.
a) I am not clear on where the elevation is being measured from when I go to the calculator. I live in Arlington Virgina. My Latitude is 38.9 and Longitude is 77.1. The elevation I've received is 38.9. Is this elevation measured from the
HH90 stem axis (the part that turns down from the motor) or is it measured from the horizontal or vertical? The bracket which connects directly to the dish has a gauge on it, but it looks like even if the dish was vertical, the "0" mark would not be align in the vertical plane. So I was wondering if I should set the elevation off of this gauge and not worry about the axis of the HH90 stem or the vertical or horizontal planes (relative to earth/horizon).
b) I thought I had an instruction that told me how far to set the LNBF back in the holder. I can't find it, so I set it all the way back? Is there a certain distance that this must be located to get the focal point. How can I tell if I am at the focal point? How can I tell if I have a bad LNBF? I do have a 30MHz scope (which I haven't used in ages). Would that help.
c) After going through the various forum post and other web sites, I think that since I have a moving sat dish I don't have to be concerned about skew of the LBNF. I simply install it in the vertical plane of the dish and the skew will be taken care of as the dish is rotated. Is this correct?
d) My sat meter has a knob on it that reads out in dBu from -6 to +6. How do I use it? I have it installed between the motor and the receiver, but for the most part, I haven't seen much movement in the meter needle. I did get a high pitch audible when I turned the knob to +2dbu and it seems to stay that way regardless of where I turned the dish until I tighten the connector. I haven't gotten a sound since.
The best I have seen so far on the TV is a 50% indicator on signal level. Signal quality remains at zero.
Any tips would be helpful. I am trying to beat the freeze
Thanks
v/r
