reception problems with Telstar 12

Hello,

I have the following installation problem. Perhaps someone can give
me some ideas.

I am trying to get a channel on Telstar 12 at 15W. Elevation is at 14.5
degrees at my location. I do not have a 100% clear line of sight (there
are the tops of a few trees in the distance - but not anything terrible,
since there are no leaves at this time of year,
and most likely the satelite is above the tree line (however, I do not have
an accurate inclinometer to test this).

I have a Hotdish95 antenna and a ASC321-2 Universal Ku LNBF
(I think made from DMS International). The receiver is SFT-702PLus
from Samsung.

I have used this particular receiver during the summer with success in Europe, and it works quite well. I have not used it before however with
the dish and LNB above in the US.

I have been trying to get the Telstar 12 signal. To begin with, I am targeting the 11732 frequency (SR 29900). I can point the dish towards
the satellite, and I am getting a 98% signal strength (!). However, the signal
quality is only at 10% and the signal once in a while fades in and out.
I cannot scan the transponder for channels. I am moving the dish by a bit,
and I dont get any improvement. I have rotated the LNB by about 45 degrees for this particular satellite according to the dish pointing tool I am
using. By further adjusting LNB tilt I am not gaining anything.

I am particularly puzzled by the low signal quality, because I have never
seen this with this particular receiver. In particular, the signal is either 98% or 0% (no values inbetween). Again, I have not seen this before.

Would you think that my problem is with the dish? The LNB? the treeline?
The low elevetion of the satelite?
Something else?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

thanks

I think its kind of difficult to be 100 percent sure that the signal from T12 is not hitting the tree tops. Since 14 degrees is low, it can be a possibility. But there just might be something else. Check to see if you have your pole perfectly level, and skew adjusted right. Whats your zip code?
