Do I need to Amplify Sat/off-air signal?

I have 8 locations in my house that I want to have Sat, I also have an Apartment with 6 locations. I would like to be able to have the option of using cable tv. I know that I need to setup two seperate switchs, because if I subscribe to cable tv I dont want the Apartment to share my cable tv signal.

I will use one switch for my house and another switch for the Apartment. I have two cable tv lines coming in from outside one for apartment and one for house.

If I use a 2 way Sat. splitter that goes to two 3x8 switches, Do I need to amplify the Sat. Signal and/or cable tv signal before that splitter?

Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks
