Polarization with Rotator

I just purchased a brand new, gold plated (ie, all the bells and whistles) satellite system from Sadoun. I have no previous experience with TV satellite receiving systems. The system appears to have a rotator to aim at any satellite, as well as what I assume is a linearly polarized LN dish feed.

So here is my question: If each satellite has a unique polarization, how do I switch satellites? Do I have to run up to the roof and rotate by dish feed?

Any intelligent person would have made all the systems circularly polarized, which would avoid this problem as well as Faraday rotation.
Bizarre.

Thanks for clarifying and regards,

Brian

Can you be a little more specific which system you have purchased. Give a refference to the item on Sadoun's web site. This might help us give you a better answer.

If you purchased a FTA system with a motor, your receiver takes care of everything you have asked. It will switch the polarity and it will move the motor for you. All you have to do is set it up correctly initially and you should be able to see all the satellites visible to you.

It had never occured to me that the feed could rotate it's own polarization, although in hindsite, it would be required. Here is what I ordered:

M-1 FS LifeTime ULTRA Blind Search HH90 FS80P Motorized Satellite System
STAB HH120 Motor and FS80U upgrade
DKIT96 Free RCA Install Kit
90P dish upgrade
SF95 satellite signal meter

I think that you already answered my question, though...

Hi Brian:

You will see when you install the motor that skew is automatically adjusted as the motor turns the dish -- this is engineered into the motor design. Just make sure you set 'zero' skew when you mount the LNB on the dish (6 o'clock position).

Hi, Kat. This implies that all the satellites have the same polarization vector in the absolute sense, like N-S. As long as my polarization vector is N-S, I'm okay? That would be very civilized.

True. All satellites have the same polarization vector in reference to your geographic location. When the motorized dish is pointing at your "due south" satellite, polarization is zero. As the dish turns east the polarization is automatically skewed in one direction and as it turns west the polarization is skewed in the other direction. Yes, it is a very civilized method of polarization. In fact, the concept was pioneered right here in Toronto, Ontario -- the birthplace of humanity, mecca of civilization and of course, center of the universe...
