FTA Pinpoint AMC4

Ding Dong...I dun it.

The thrill of it all having hit AMC4 and then setting in front of my TV watching the Peoples Network and thinking, "I did it myself" and then blushing a little and realizing I did it with a little help from my friends, Sadoun Web Site, The forum and Swampthing to name a few. First you have to drain the swamp ya know.

KU Band is a little more finiky than its counterparts. It seems to me you not only have to be on a pinhead but in the center of it. Still, I have 78% quality now and don't or haven't experienced any knockouts to date.

Beging a bit nostalgic, I love watching the cowboy movies from Roy Rogers to Chill Whills and Frank Snatra, Burns and Allen to name a few including Abbot and Costello. I could watch channel 1 24/7.

Yet, man is never satisfied with just "Good Enough". He must strive to go onwards and upwards. In the old days, we had 50 foot VHF antenaes on top of our roofs with a rotor cause no one wanted to slide up and down all those wobbly things. Now with FTA sats, the Pig, may go a little hungry at my house.

Well enough horse maneur, here is the question which probably won't get answered because no one wants to read this far: Since KU FTA is so hard to pinpoint, is there a rotor that will work. I understand currently there isn't any that can do it well. If it lands just a fraction of a hair off signal then you don't get the sat.

I could use a launery pen (sp) to make marks for AMC 4 and Intelast 6 etc. but getting out the ladder and moving the dish manuelly gets old since I have to put my bathroom off limits till I finish with the Birds.

Perhaps someone is working on this problem now and can shed some light in the night.

I did, read this far I mean. Very entertaining; I'm sure swampster will get a bang out of it and reply very soon.

You can get a motor for the dish; I prefer the HH type as I think they are pretty reliable. As for your worry about pinpointing, its not a real problem. I found no issues with the motor not accurately finding the desired bird. Plus, you can always manually 'nudge' the dish a tad if you need to.

BTW, good job on tuning in AMC4..

Thanks

Thank-you bobkat for the advice. In reading over some of the manuels, I see I will be in for a higher degree of learning. I will be reading as much as I can here on the forum and get things right in my mind so once I order I will be ready to tackle the job.

Incidentally, AMC4 is now showing War and Rememberance in all its parts, some tonight, some tomorrow and the rest tomorrow night. I always wanted to see it again and now I can uninterupted and no commercials. Some of the worlds greatest actors and actrecess were in this one. Ralph Belamy, Robert Mitchem to name a few.

It certainly was worth it to get this dish going. My traxis DBS 2500 is for DisEqc 2.1 only and the HH motors look like they will work. It's my mind that I have to get working.

This time I will debug the grounds surrounding the Dish. I think I got some chiggers working on the project last time. I hope that's all they were. A scorpion took a ride on my shoulder for a short while as I was abel to strike my back with my hand so hard and so fast it surprised even me. Two squirells were playing in a tree in back of the dish and the tree fell silent after my strike. I've been bitten by them befor and I don't want to play it again.
