Mounting on roof

I want to mount my Dish on the roof where the roof gets into an upsidedown "V" shape. I want to know If i just need to use the included screws for the fortec star 90 cm dish and if it will cause any problems with leaking or anything like that. Do I need to get special screws? And my roof is also with shingles. Thanks.

Druzetito;Never mount a dish mast on a crown or a valley...way too much chance of causing a leak in the flashing material. It is ok to mount through shingles on a FLAT slope section.Use a good silicone in the holes before setting screws in tight(I always put a bead AROUND the entire foot and in any unused holes as well).Hope this helps.

I don't fully understand. I am new to all this. So you say I can mount the screws on the flat section of the slope? Why do I need silicone and how should I screw in the screws... using a drill first or directly spinning them in with a screw driver?

Druzey, its easy. Just take 4 lag bolts or big wood screws and drive them into the roof deck (plywood usually; unless you have tiles - then forget it...). Try your best to have at least 2 of them driven into a rafter or truss. You don't need to drill anything - just start the bolt or screw with a good whack from a hammer. Put plenty of silicone caulking around the 4 holes as you drive the bolt or screw home. Then, like the swampster sez, completely seal around the base with more caulking. To be really anal you can also cover the bolt/screw head with still more caulking.

Sorry for being such a noobie at this DIY stuff so I have few more questions. The silicone is for sealing so no water comes in? and can I use the included bolts or do I need special bolts?

Druze:...if you get 2 screws in a rafter and 2 in the plywood, you can use 1 1/2 inch wood screws(I recommend galvanized square head drive). If you do not hit rafters, you are still gonna need at least 1 inch screws.Going into facia requires a similar setup. My favorite install is a 5/16ths hex drive inch and a half wood screw w/built in washer...BANG!! driver home in one swift kick in da arse.just set the mounting foot in place, squeeze a squirt of goo in the hole and line up the screw in your battery drill and ..MMMPPHH!!!Bang 'er in!!Better than SEX!!!...I think...been a while!!HARHAHAHAR!!! 8)

Rafters are the upper support roof beam on the truss assembly. They are usually spaced either 16" or 24" on center from the end of the gable. 8)
