Wingard 76cm Dish Level 74% Quality 00%

I have done the ridiculous and now need to do the impossible.

Here's where I am:
Trying to lock AMC 4 Bird
Lat 28.91 Long 82.464 Zip 34461
Elevation 50.6
Azmuth/Vermuth 214.8 Magnetic 216.2 Skew 29.9
System:
Wingard DS-2076 76CM Offset KU Dish
Traxis DBS-2500 Receiver
ASC3215 Digital Ready Ku LNBF RF: 11.7 - 12.2 GHz IF: 950 - 1450 MHz
AMC 4 is 101 W
On my Dish I have 5 marks from 50 - 60 elevation. Trying to hit 50.6
somehow.
Installation Video says to set perimeters as follows:
Antenna AMC 4
LNB Type Universal
TP: Freq 11807
Symbol 2713
Polar H
12V Off
DisEqC Off
LNB Poler On

I used a dedicated RG6 cable with an inline amp. I use a Phillips RF
modulator to convert signal so RCA plugs into it and RG6 coax plugs
into my TV without RCA plugs.

I used a signal meter to hone in on satelite.

Are there any other players here I need to consider? I grow weary
walking 100 feet back and forth to move dish a hairline only to get
00% quality. At this point it seems impossible. What would an
installation man do that I haven't done?

take a satfinder to a shorty cable by the dish, and key it in tight from close range.

All Clear

It's like every thing else I do...I get in too late or too early. With stocks I get in too late.

20 to the left and 20 to the right and all clear on the firing line. I did get up to 80% level till I disconected the sat finder and it went back down to 78%. I will remain at 00% quality till I need a new door stop.

It shouldn't take a cast of thousands and months of adjustments to install one of these things.

I predict that one of these days, perhaps after I'm gone, that there will be a standard installation that anyone can use for any system. All you will have to do is go out in the fresh night air with a trusty flashlight and fresh batteries and flash a series of longs and shorts toward the satelite of your choice.

Then a beam of light will shoot down out of the night sky and center on your dish and a voice will say, "Stand back while the dish is being adjusted." It will take less than a minute and when finished you can go back into your home and your TV will be transformed into a provacative and highly entertaing system. The only problem you will have is in finding something you want to watch.

hmmmm...that could happen!..but for now, let's enjoy our misery since it could well end at any time. You DO have a satfinder?! ok..does your meter(finder) tell you the bird its on?do you have a signal graph?(i would assume you do,since you got to 80%);While you are out there, you need to adjust not only elevation and azimuth, but dish skew, and even possibly LNB skew.you are giving in too easily to frustration.Take a tent, sleeping bag, some porno rags, and build a fire. This could take days.PS...read bobkats new forum selection in classic threads..."I'm a beaten man"

Yes I'm Torn

But I can't quit because I'm having too much fun. The tent sounds like a good idea. I hate for the neighbors to see me walking back and forth.

Another suspect item could be my inline amplifier. I purchased it at a shak in my area. I paid full price for it and discovered when I got home that it had been previously opened. That makes me drool on myself. I can't say the two names of the store without getting a disgusting foul taste in my mouth.

To me if something has been opened, it is no longer new and should not be sold as new. Perhaps it's nothing. Maybe these inline amps are very sturdy. Maybe you could take it and throw it against a brick wall and not harm it. On the other hand, maybe they should have sent it back to the factory for testing and repackaging. I think those two guys should be selling ice cream cones and not electronics parts.

The other shak in the mall, the guy there told me there wasn't any such animal as "Silicone Greese". The man at the hardware store where I did buy it just laughed. So what. So they make me a little paronoid and the amp is probably all right. Maybe I should remove it, throw it against the wall and see.

No, I can't quit. My concious self says, "Why are you doing this to your self?" and my sub-concious says, "Hey dude...you love it...you know you do...the pain and agony of it is really joyfull agony." The agony and ectasy of it all. Whew!

I can see right now you are gonna fit in well with the program .attitude rules...and yours is exemplary.OK...could be the inline amp...The suggestion to work in close proximity of the dish was in effect a suggestion to also remove ANY unneccessary toys.try this...upm close and personal;use a 10 foot shorty direct to the lnb frome the receiver...go in the tent with the receiver and little tv.Open a can of peaches.see if jimmy swaggart comes on.

In Line OUt In Line In

I used a feed thru connector to remove the inline amp and reconnect the line. My other feed thru was being used to strain the peaches thru.

My level went to 42% so I take back every thing I said about the ice cream guys. I put it back in and went back up to 76%. So I have two peach strainers now to use as feed thrus.

My bracket for the LNBF has two nuts and screws and it will slide out away from and closer to the Dish. Is this another adjustment?

I've been up for days now but not running yet. I've found out that if you are faced with the "Gotta Go Right Now" syndrome, if you force it and don't give in it will eventually absorb back into your system and keep you from dehydrating.

My neighbors, the fools, are boarding their windows up. This is more fun.

I have my dish on the ground as instructed. It is on a six foot galvanized steel pipe with three feet of it in the ground and set in concrete. It is plumb and level on all sides. I took two days to pour the concrete and it is solid. The dish is grounded to the main block and the cable is grounded to a grounding plate which is also grounded to the main block.

Right now I sort of feel like I'm not even in the ballpark and they are asking me for the ball.

yes...the lnb slides in and out,and that is one of the adjustments. When your quality fell to 46%,was that on the receiver inside?or were you near the dish?

you are gonna need to get the receiver and a small tv out by the dish.no 2 ways about it.Is this your first dish install?if so,the peculiararities of settings and tweaking signal will escape you trying to do it w/o visual recognition.

1st Dish

Yes this is my first dish install. It has been heavy rain here this afternoon and sprinkling now. I will have to wait till things dry out before trying to set up a visual.

I have a small window about ten feet from the dish. Perhaps I can rig something up from there so I can see the bars. I have a small 14" black and white TV I could use.

The atmosphere is soupy now so that needs to clear up also I'm sure.

Lecanto

My Zip Code is Lecanto but I am closer to Beverly Hills Florida. Just South of there a little ways. I'm sure Ivan is gonna tear up the atmosphere shortly and all bets will be off. This all sits just North and in between Crystal River and Inverness.

I've been thinking about using mirrors to see the TV. It would only take around twenty of them. I could install a camper type rear view mirror outside my bathroom window and one of those mirrors on my right shoulder where objects appear larger than they actually are. I figure I would be Okay as long as I don't sneeze.

HeHeHe   Right On !! Killer idea...

Up here our cars have mirrors that say "Drivers in mirror are dumber than they appear".

Well, I'm off for a couple days R & R -- take the boat out for a spin, maybe catch a few Gray Ghosts, drink far too many vodka coolers...

Later guyz !!

Looking For Birds In All The Wrong Places

You know it is true. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I discovered an error tonight in my calculations, not the math ones but the brainy ones. I had the correct numbers but just didn't crunch them right. My mind tricked me into thinking angles were smaller than they actually are.

I did Okay in Geometry but never felt like it could be applied to anything real in life, so I let it drift some. I've had some small 2x4 blocks in the garage for 13yrs just waiting for this event to happen. So I placed one on the kitchen table and the compass on top of it and realized I have been pointing the dish about 20 degrees off.

I took a ruler and made some marks and then joined the two together to form a line. Just like in Geometry. In the morning I plan to place the block on top of the mast and use it as an aid in pointing to correct azmuth. That is if it is still okay with Ivan.

Then I am gonna fire up the ole SF 95meter till it squeels and it gets the neighbors dog to barking again. Then I'll know I'm in the ball park and if they ask me for the ball I just might give it to them.

I'll let you know if it works.
