The compass is getting wrong readings because of the metal in the walls of your apartment. Finding directions in an apartment is tricky. You must know the approximate direction you will aim the dish (like south-east or south-west). Then go out on the balcony (if you have one) and hold the compass as far away as possible from the metal railing. This will give you a fairly good reading. If you don't have a balcony then find a window on the side you will mount the dish. Open the window and hold the compass as far out as possible to get a good reading. Mounting a dish through a window as tricky too. You will need to drill holes in the brick wall; make sure your landlord has no problem with this. Also make sure you fasten the foot really well to the wall -- you don't want the dish to fall off and take out a car's windshield; or worse, hit somebody. Of course, before you do all this make sure the dish will actually fit through the window... :roll:
