List of Satellite footprints for my area.

I have my 76cm dish fixed to T5.

I have my old DN dish(20inch) and LNB pointing to Echostar7(119). I believe I need a switch and a little bit of setup on my receiver and then I can pull in the FTA music channels and the 1 or 2 unscrambled TV channels off of that bird.

I have one additional 18-20 inch dish with a DTV/DN LNB.

Any suggestions what I can do with this size dish? Any other significant FTA stuff on the DN or DTV birds?

What if I switched out the LNB? Would I be able to pick up G10R, Nimq2 or AMC3(PBS Channels) with a dish this size in my area?

I am in NJ and I am looking for a list of the footprints of each of the birds. I want to determine the dish size required for each of them in my area. Didnt see that info on Lyngsat.

I have this extra small dish and want to see if there is anyway I can make use of it? All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for that link.

Couple Questions:

1) It looks like Galaxy 10R has a EIRP of 51 for my location, so I am estimating that this means a 50cm dish so 19.7 inches. Do you realistically think i will be able to get G10R with an 18-20inch mini dish?
I know i will need a different LNB than the DTV/DN kind. Im looking for some real world experience so i dont waste my time.

2) Where is the footprint for AMC3 and the additional birds?
The link on that page to lyngsat does not give any footprint maps!? :?:

3)Any other significant FTA stuff on the DN, DTV or other birds using the DN/DTV dish/LNB combo ?

4) Any additional suggestions of what I can do with a dish this size?

Thanks

johnnyd:

Don't try to estimate dish size by the reading of EIRP; in general you need a minimum 30" dish for these KU band FTA satellites. On lyngsat, if you click on the pattern under "Beam" it will link you the footprint of that particular satlellite. For example, here is the footprint for AMC 3:

As for your spare DTV dish; forget trying to use it for FTA; get another 30" dish and linear LNB or else motorize your present dish.

18 inch dish

With your spare 18 inches dish, you can get FTA music channels on Nimiq 1.

johnnyd;Etlam and kat are correct in their statements, but let me add this;(1)you can get E7,and E6&8 on 1 DN 500 dish;then use a single 18" for nimiq 1,or a DN 500 and get Nimiq 1&2 together.you can then feed 4 lines to your diseqc switch and then to your receiver. This gives you 5 sats on 2 fixed dishes.I do it all the time.skew on nimiq is a little tricky.cheers,swamp.

Let me add one more thing...for true channel variety and limited dishes, take kat's advice and get a motor.

Thanks swampy..this was what i was looking for.

OK.. here is what i want to do:

1 fixed 18in dish/DTV LNB pointed at Echo7
1 fixed 18in dish/DTV LNB pointed at Nimq1
1 MOTORIZED 30in dish/Universal LNB pointed at T5/G10R/AMC3
1 OTA HDTV Antenna

1 wire down and into the house. A diplexor to split to my FTA Receiver and to my OTA HDTV Receiver.

What equipment do I need?
Which Switch do I need? does this install at the roof?
Which motor will work in this setup?

I want to add the switch first and then when my budget allows to add the motor and the second receiver. I want to make sure I get the right equipment that will all work together.

OK..Here is one more big point I am considering. I have Dual LNB's on all my dishes and I want to run 2 receivers! So I am assuming 1 wire to each receiver/TV setup.

I was looking at Sadouns switches, but im a little confused as to which i need and if the motor will work through a switch and if i can run the two receivers... Can u run 2 receivers with a motorized dish??? Help!

johnnyd;...the dish set up is a green light.on your last point, the receivers run the dishes...not vice versa.all the in between questions are iffy.

the diplexer will work..as long as something is diplexed in already(OTA,i'm assuming)

...each dual lnb will run 2 separate receivers.
...switches;A diseqc 4 way(you will need 3 of 4 ports)
...once you throw the motor in the mix, you'll need a little different setup.
...not sure why you don't just get the motor and be done with it on the first go round?

I would like to get the motor...
I'm just trying to figure out what is ALL the equipment i will need for the above setup. And I want to make sure it will all work together.

So were u saying i need 2 independent switches instead of one monster switch? Wire up one port from each dual LNB into 2 different switches?

How does the motor get wired in? Different switches will be required?

There seem to be 3 classes of switches. Which will I need 2 make this setup work?

one more thing..I do not think you need more than a diseqc switch for the 3 dishes for one receiver;now, for a dual system, using dual LNB's,you should only require 2.check with a mod on this.
