Help with Installation!

Bought the Samsung system, Model 3800. Connected everything according to manual and pointed the dish to T5. Got a signal strength of 64-80% depending on transponder, but 0% on signal quality. Reorienting the dish from East to West, North to South, upside down still gave a signal strength of at least 60%, but always 0% signal quality. Am I having a bad LNB or I just have to be patient in orientiing the dish? By the way, I got a signal strength of at least 60% whent I removed the LNB from its mount. The only time I got a signal strength of 0 is when I disconected the LNB.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

That's the magic word.. got to be patient. There are numerous threads in this forum regarding your situation. Some real good reading there.

But could you please explain to me how can you get a signal strength of 60-70% when the LNB is disconnected from the dish and just laying on the ground. The signal strenght never changes except when the LNB is disconnected. Thank you

THE SIGNAL STRENGTH BASICALLY JUST INDICATES WHETHER YOU ARE CONNECTED WITH LNB. YOU WILL HAVE THE BEST SUCCESS IF YOU IGNORE IT (AS LONG AS IT SHOWS SOMETHING) WHEN ALIGNING YOUR DISH AND JUST PAY ATTENTION TO SIGNAL QUALITY. THE REASON YOU SHOW A READING ON STRENGTH WHEN THE LNB IS LAYING ON THE GROUND IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT IS CONNECTED BY THE COAX TO THE RECEIVER. A HIGH SIGNAL QUALITY IS THE ONLY INDICATOR YOU ARE ON THE SATELLITE AND WILL BE ABLE TO VIEW THE CHANNELS. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thank you for the explanation, but I still have not been able to get any signal quality. I was able to easily lock in on the Bell satellite with my other receiver. But Telstar 5 is just escaping me. This is my fourth system (the other 2 are from Dish Network) using a Samsung DSR 3800 system with a Samsung universal LNB and 76 cm dish. I live in Irvine, CA: my elevation is 44.9, my azimuth is 131.8 (Magnetic North) and the polarization tilt is -28.1 I set my LNB LO to 10750, Tone to 22k. I scanned all 16 transponders on T5 and I even used a custom setting with afrequency of 12146, "Vertical" Polarization, 22000SR without any success (signal quality was always ZERO). Can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong? The dish was mounted on the roof (3 different locations) and with an elevation of almost 45 degrees, I do not have an obstacle (tree or other house) in front of me. Is it possible that the LNB is defective?

Thank you!
