Correct South Satellite

I am setting up a Fortec 80cm dish with a stab HH120 motor and a Frotec Ultra Lifetime. Do I set the dish to a satellite or true south +2 degrees :?:
All help is welcome.

Lat 27.022815
Long 82.110782
Zip 33954

Thanks.

Re: Correct South Satellite

Your true south sat is Nimiq2 at 82W, remember Nimiq2 is circular which require a circular lnbfs to get lock on the signal. If you don't have any spare DirectTV or DishNet lnbfs, you can use either AMC5 at 79W or AMC9 at 85W as your "true south", but you will need to you USALS (aka Diseqc 1.3) to move the dish to them first before tuning the dish.

Thanks dtsexpert. Is there a better dish to use or a LNB that will work better?

80cm dish is OK. As usual, bigger is better. Stab 120 is able to drive the dish up to 120cm.

Dtsexpert;

A newbie question for you.

Re: Your comment "Nimiq has circular polarization"! Does this mean that a standard (FTA) lnbf will not receive any programing from this satellite?

Best, Dick

Standard Ku lnbf will get few of circular transponders. You should use a circular lnbf for DN/BellVu. Any directly or dishnetwork lnbf will work.

Thanks for the reply Michael, it's appreciated. Bear with me as I ask a few more newbie questions to better understand LNBFs.

1) If one uses a circular polarized LNBF, will it receive FTA programming? Or would one need two LNBFs to receive both RH/LH as well as circular polarization?

2) If LNBF is a standard FTA, will it show any quality on the receiver when aimed at a bird/transponder (for instance, Nimiq2) which is circular polarized?

3) Will a standard FTA LNBF indicate any quality on an FTA receiver when aimed at birds like Echo 7 or Echo 3 - which I presume may need a different type of LNBF? I tried to use these birds for the east & west extremes of my motor setup arc yesterday & couldn't get any quality - although a Satellite Finder meter showed a strong signal. Seven birds between these two extremes indicated both good signal & quality.
