totally dumb question

i have a skystar2 installed and read all the included instructions and i am clueless...please help please i am not sure how to get this up , free to air is new to the area and i am the first one in this area of my area in usa to get into fta.. thank u for any and all help.. ps i cant find anything on what to do besides install the darn card....

Okay I take it you have the dish and the FTA Ku lnbf do you have an H-H mount (Horizon to Horizon Mount) and I take it you have these mounted?


What software are you using?

do you have another FTA reciever on hand for testing purposes or can you borrow one?

Have you set anything vaguely similar up before (dish network or direct TV)


Just to start you down this road setting this up with just the PC and the Dish can be trying ( are you willing to move your PC and monitor to a location right near the dish?)

I received a SkyStar Pci Card a few days back , I had the dish install by a good friend who works for a sattilite store here in USA , Ms , His finder is hitting echostar 119 , but the computer is getting no information , All software was install by another friend who owens a computer store and the computer saids the card is working fine , but we can't get it to do anything , Its a FTA and a high-speed internet card , So we need alittle help . If anyone knows anything about this card , I am TOTALY new at this ,

What satellite a re you trying to get (I am guessing 119 from your post)? What size dish are you using and what LNB are you using?

Also on 119 there are few radio station and NASA FTA. Everything else is scrambled and not for discussion around here.

vj999 , I'm using a echostar dish 500 , and the lnb that came with it , and i'm hitting 119 like you think , only becaues my friend knew how to hit that sattelite , I realy dont mind getting only free to air , Right now i'm getting nothing but a red bar , I have a SkyStar 2 tv Pci Card , Thank you for any help you give me .

Okay first Is the LNBF a universal ? Make model would help.

The LNB Freq makes me think you are using a dishnetwork or other LNBF.

Also point your dish at say Intelsat 5(telstar 5) http://www.lyngsat.com/ia5.html

this is about mid arc and is the easiest to dial in.

I take it you do not have an H-H motorized mount for the dish?

If you are trying to get dish network through this card for viewing, it is not supported by echostar and the software that comes with these cards may not support the technology needed to recieve those signals. Also the signal is circular polarized I believe so with a Universal LNBF you will have zero luck.

If you are trying to do High speed internet. The service with in the states here should not work with that card. In Europe this card is great for some of the free high speed sat internet.

Look this is a great card and a heck of a lot of fun once you get it going it can be fun trying too depending on your mind set. Do not let these set back discourage you. The amount of FTA programming is vast. Take your friends finder lock onto Intelsat 5 use the bottom of the Lyngsat chart to dial in a few transponders. Once you have I5 locked in and the data flowing to your computer you can move your dish to other sats for FTA programing that might be of more interest.

I will recommend that if you really want to get the most out of this in future save the cash up and invest in an H-H mount for the dish if you do not have one.

Okay I just read your latest post while I was typing this.

You will get very limited FTA programming with this set up. You need to replace the LNBF with a universal(such as those for sale here at sadoun). Second the Freq you are using is incorrect for that LNBF if memory serves it is 11.7 to 12.2 higher end of the band. Next look throught the Lyngsat Sat directory for available satellites in the arc you can see find one that has the programming that most appeals and park it there for a while.

Symbol rate shoud be 20000 (not 2000). Not sure what LNB selection means, but I am guessing a LNB should be selected.

loser;you said you were using a dish 500 unit...that's a dual lnb type;are you sure that the lnb pointed at 119 is the one hooked to your computer? I know this sounds elementary,but sometimes that is what is wrong.Yes,you do need to check an lnb setting...especially if you have a diseqc switch(you probably do not).keep us posted. :wink:

I have my signal of 87% , I downloaded PROGFINDED and it solved alot of my problems , I also got a old Primestar Dish and put a older DSS LNB
on it , Then i downloaded TSREADERLITE and Bingo , It showed me Tv for the frist time , but i still have a long way to go , I need a program that will let me watch Tv , If anyone could tell me a good one to download i would be thankful , I have one that came with my SkyStar 2 Pci Card on a disk , The disk is called DVB-PC TV STARS , I tryed to watch Tv on the software on the cd , but no luck , I still have alot to learn , but i will get there , If anyone cant help , Thank you , If not Thank you anyways , I am new and would like to watch Tv with this card , I live in Mississippi , USA ,
and need all the help i can get .

I have a 200 gb harddrive , 512 ram , 1.3 ghs , I use AVG virus scan , I am clean , I ran spyware scan using SPYREMOVER , It's clean and i ran SYSTEM MECHANIC , So everything is clean and on top of that i formated my computer 2 to 3 days ago , Any other ideas please let me know , Ithank you for trying to help me .
