newbie assistance please

Well I bought a Fortec 90cm dish, SG2100 motor, universal LNBF, and a PanSat 2500-A and I am having a hard time with the initial setup of my dish. When I go east I can pick off a few satellites but none when I go west. So tonight I am going to do some adjustments. My question is where to start. I point it at true south and then what? Is there a satellite close to there that I can test out before going to another? My location is Owosso, MI, USA. (48867). Just trying to get some advise/councel from the people that apparently know alot. Thanks.

Tony

First follow the links instructions second find Intelsat 5 (telstar 5) and get that dialed in next try going to one side say AMC 3 or farther since you are much more east then I. http://www.lyngsat.com/ia5.html this URL will give you a start.
Now go to the other side say Galaxy 10.

Once you have dialed in on of the far sides go back and tweak Intelsat five and go back to to the other side and tweak it what you are doing is a balancing act. You are trying to track the shape of the Satellite Arc. Once you have done these small adjustment you should get a full track of the full visable arc and have much more programming available.

Also remember that setting your LNBF correctly on your reciever is very important. Also making sure you have a leveled dish in two directions.

Now when reading the degree numbers on Lyngsat remember the numbers get larger to the west and smaller to the East.

Also look at site http://www.satcodx.info/ for more satellite position info

Also look here on Sadoun for good information.
