Magnetic Deviation

I have a 36" Fortec Dish with a STAB HH100 motor and Ultra receiver. One final thing confuses me a bit. It appears that when first aligning everything you want to point the dish at "True South"....which at first thought would appear to be 180 degrees. But I don't get that deviation principle and what to do about it. I'm in the Bay Area...which means I need to subtract about 16-18 degrees if I'm reading that chart correctly. Is it as simple as subtracting 16 degrees let's say from 180 and pointing the dish at 164 degrees...and using that as my "True South" reference point?

One other thing...what sats would you use to fine tune the dish? Seems that G10 being very close to "True South" for my location might be a good one to start with but then what other one's would be good? T5? What are some of the more powerful/easier ones to find? Are those DishNet birds powerful and therefore good ones to use?

Yes

>and pointing the dish at 164 degrees...and using that as my "True South" reference point?

Yes

Yes for you it is. You want the sat that's at the highest point of the arc to initially line up the motor.

- Install the motor put it at "reference point" (center) according to the directions on the webpage. Line everything up pointing to 164.

- Using the motor control (USALS if you can or whatever your receiver supports) make the motor move to G10R. It wont' move much. Now adjust the dish elevation & pole mount azimuth to tweak the signal. Do not adjust the motor's elevation bracket.

Once you find the signal for G10R,

- Move to the most east sat you can see. Hopefully you will get some signal. Tweak alignment. Try the west most sat. Tweak some more. Come back to G10R and see if you still have decent signal.

Not really. The linear LNB wont give a reading on those sats. If you're going for FTA you should be peaking for FTA...

Good luck.
