install questions

I'm slaving a Fortec 786 to my Motorola 922. We've hooked it up like the diagram on the site, except we don't have it going into a switch since we don't have Ku yet. In order to get c-band, we have to have the FOrtec on and then we have to go to the set up menu and go to channel search. Until we do that, we don't get any c-band picture. ALso, the interests/favorites settings on the MOT are now not right. ANd we don't get any guide info (which makes sense since we have to go to setup every time we turn it on).

1. I'm confused about what the DiSEqC setting we should have. Since my dish is controlled by the MOT receiver, what DiSEqC setting do we need?

2. THere is no place for the RCA (3 cable) arrangement coming in to the Fortec. At this point, DH has Coax cables from the MOT (TV out) to the FORTEC Antenna In. But he also has RCA cables from the MOT to the TV. Is that a problem having the MOT connected to the TV both ways? ALso, he thought that he was supposed to connect to the Loop, but when he does that, we get nothing.

Thanks.

Dear Serena

Congratulations on your Fortec Star 786NA receiver purchase.

The DiSEqC switch is used to switch between the C band and KU band LNBs. Since you son't have a KU band LNB yet on your big dish, there is no need to use the switch.

LNB connection should be as follows:

---(_ C-Band LNB
|
|
__|_
|___| Splitter (line indicates DC pass)
| |
| |__________________ 4DTV receiver
|
|
|
|___________ Fortec Receiver

In the Fortec receiver, change the LNB Type to Single-S
You should change the LO figure to 5150 by clicking OK on SINGLE-S and change the LO using the remote control buttons.

If SINGLE-S does not work, try SINGLE.
LNB Power should be V/H

Since the Mot is controlling the polarity of your LNB, make sure you scan the satellite twice on your Fortec. One time with a Vertical polarity and another with a Horizontal polarity.

RCA cables should be connected to an A/V receiver or directly to your TV Input.

The RF output from your 4DTV can go into the Antenna input of your Fortec, then you can connect the RF output on your Fortec to your RF input on your TV.

Thanks. I'll try that. WHat does DC mean in reference to the splitter (apparantly not direct current)? BOth outputs of the splitter look the same.

Thanks,
Serena

DC means Direct Current. The receiver sends a signal 14-18V DC to control the polarity on the LNBF. The splitter output that has the line from the input to the output should be connected to the 4dtv receiver. The other side to the DiSEqC switch.

Ok, we had the cables reversed. Now the MOT is working fine again. However, when we run set up, we go to t5 and run the channel search and it says "No new channels found." What now?

The MOT is controlling the polarity of the LNB.

Change the channel on the MOT to, let say, a Horizontal channel.
Go to the Fortec receiver. Do a channel search.

When complete, change the channel on the MOT to a Vertical channel. Go back to the Fortec receiver. Do a channel search again.

The Fortec will store whatever channels it finds on that satellite. If you do the search again, "No new channels found" will appear if no new channels are found to add to the list already stored from previouse searches.
