I htink my LNB died?? Need confirmation or better yet denial

I was told by someone that if I couldn't get my two LNBs to fit proper on the LNB arm to mkae up a bracket and strip the LNBs of their plastic (except the white plastic covering the LNB horn) to get them to position properly on the bracket... well I did this and last night it rained pretty good here.... I lost my signal and quality. I can get up to a 71 in signal but no mater what I do I can't get any quality...... Did the rain kill my now naked LNBs?

Considering you still have signal, I am sceptic to say that your LNB is fried, but the cover is there for a reason. Could it be that it was windy as well and you dish is of the arc now?

I was thinking the same thing... I also thought about the dish alignment but I was just up there and instaled a new motor and releveled the pole perfect plumb and what not so I don't think that could be the case....

Well... they're both dead.
Just tried them both on a buddies system down the street. He has basically the exact same setup as I had. We checked his various sats out with his two LNBs and all was fine. Then we switched out his LNBs for mine and nadda.. zippo, zilch, big fat frikin zero.
I can't say how P.Oed I am right now at the guy who told me to take the plastic off them and said they would be fine. But I'm also kicking myself in the butt for listening to him.
Anyone know where I can pick up a dual output standard linear LNB and a circular dual output LNB real cheap??? I just bought those frikin things not even a month ago.....

If you don't want to pay list price from dealer, ebay is a good place to search for lnbfs. The trade-off is warranty is usually not implied, so there is risk invovled when buying stuffs on ebay.
Good luck

Actually I wanted em faster than I can get em form e-Bay hehe. Like yesterday LOL. There's a couple sat shopw here in town I can pick up the circular ones at... just gotta see if I can find a place with linear ones. I know the StarChoice ones work for linear so if I can find a place that sells those I'm laughing... well not laughing.. I'm still miffed about the new ones dying....
Ya know.... that was the first time I have ever tried anything that someone told me to do without researching it first.. and I only did it cause I saw a lot of this guy's posts and he seemed to know his stuff.... looks like he might just be a good cut and paste artist

Well now we all know the lnbs are not weather tight without the
plastic housing.

I wonder, if a close lightening strike can take out an lnb.

In my opinion, you should not blame this on whoever made the suggestion. Things happens for no reasons. Maybe it works for him becuase he lives in an area where it does not rain often. Too many things to count for causing your lnbf dead...:-)
I have heard and seen folks doing the same thing as you did, and their lnbfs work fine.
Maybe you can email Sadoun asking for a deal for both linear and circular and the overnight shipping cost. Just my opinion.

Well got two new LNBs ($120 CDN later) and popped em on and all's fine now.
DTS, I wasn't placing all the blame on him.. as I said I was kicking my own butt for listening without looking into it first. The person actually lives pretty close to where I do so the weather conditions would be the same.
