Pre-wired Problem

Hello;
I'm trying to install a fortec star system in a cable pre-wired home using the cable that goes from the TV box outside to the room. It happened to me once that I could not get a signal after I was done with the installation. So this time I was more careful and did some testings. I hooked the receiver to the cable in the room and went outside and hooked a toner to the other end. I could get a beeb so I though that would work just fine. So after I was done with the installation I connected everything but I could not get any signal strength or quality in that same room. I followed the cable through the attic and could not see anything wrong with it. I do not understand What could be the problem. I can get a signal quality of 92 if I hook the receiver to the cable just before the TV box. How could you tell if there was a splitter in that line? Please help>

OK; when using a toner do not connect the receiver. You connect one end of the toner (main part with battery) to one end of the cable and connect the other end (little beeper part) to the other end of the cable. If you get a loud beep then there is no splitter in line. If you get a very quiet beep or no beep then there's a splitter somewhere. If your toner has a little red light it will come on if there's a splitter in line. To be double sure, reverse the cable ends when checking with the toner.

Thank you.
I tried to use a short cable with no splitter to check the toner. Connected one end to the beeber and the other end to the other part of the toner, I still got a red light and the beeber was very loud. Does that mean my toner is not working right?

Sorry; I meant that if the red light comes on before you connect the "beeper" end then that indicates a splitter in line. It is normal for the red light to come on when the "beeper" is connected to the other end of the cable you are testing. Yes, a loud beep is what the toner is supposed to do - there is nothing wrong with your toner.
