Fortec Star FC90U -- 45 or 30 degree roof mount?

:?: I will most likely have to mount the new FC90U on either the garage roof (45 degree pitch) or house roof (30 degree pitch) to clear the trees.

Looking at the mount included with the dish, I can't see how the support braces could work on an angled roof without modification. The diagram included with the dish only shows horizontal or vertical mounting, but the description of the product says it can be roof mounted. Is this only for flat roofs?

I have some old DTV mounts I could try, which are actually heavier gauge steel than the Fortec's, but I doubt it could support the extra wind load without the braces. Any suggestions?

The support braces will work on angled roofs; it just takes a little fiddling around. Try reversing the clamp assembly so that the tightening nut is underneath the mast rather than above it as shown in the diagram.

I live in the middle of the woods, too, and the only way for me to clear the trees was to mount on the roof (about a 30 degree pitch).

But I have a vent pipe that comes out above the bathroom, that I used. I went to RadioShack and bought a vent pipe mount along with a 5' mast, and it works great. I really wanted to avoid drilling into the roof.

That's good to know (that the 'Shack is still good for something other than cell phones -- they carry very few electronic parts these days).

Unfortunately my vent pipe is too far from where I need to put the mast to ensure a clear horizon. Also, it is only PVC, and I'm not sure how well it is mounted.

I'll probably make some new braces (I can't figure out what bobkat was taling about -- bobkat, do you have a photo of a stock FC90U mounted on a pitched roof?). All I could find on the Sadoun site was a picture of one using one of those non-penitrating kits with a bunch of cinderblocks on it.

Trust me -- it will work. I've done it on roofs of varying pitch. Unfortunately I have no pictures of these installations - I've really got to get a digital camera ....

Take the foot mount and support bracket up on your roof and experiment.
