UHF-TV Transmitter - A MUST!

Hello everyone.

I wanted to contribute to this great forum by offering some tips to help people when setting up their satellite dishes.
First, you have to be able to see the signal meter from the receiver. I'm not sure how others do this when the TV is far from the mounting site but what I did a while ago was to buy a simple, inexpensive UHF TV transmitter. You can buy them on eBay for around $25. It is a small box with an antenna that you simply connect the video output of the receiver into the boxes input. A small B/W or color TV can be carryed easily right out to your dish or on the roof and the transmitter will 'broadcast' the video up to around 100 feet away. Just tune around the UHF dial until you see it. It's also adjustable for channel.
It's a true lifesaver! I have also used an LCD projector shined on the window across from where I was working. That is also easy except it's only good when it's dark out.
The UHF transmitter makes the job so much easier. I think Sadoun should even carry them. I'll take a 1% comission

I agree with you. If the installer does not have a meter (hopefully a professional grade meter), he needs to see the signal strength on the TV screen. Your idea is good about trasmitting the UHF signal to a small portable TV that they can carry with them.

Send me a link to one of those devices.

Sadoun,

Check your email, I sent you a link to an ebay ad which has the exact same UHF transmitter I have.
It's called a Nippon Video Sender unit.

I used my brother as my slave and told him to sit on the couch and transmit the numbers to me up on the ladder with walkie talkies!

Re: UHF-TV Transmitter - A MUST!

Brian,
Nice advice, but if you can carry a small TV close to the dish, why not for the receiver? For fixed dish, yes, all you want to see is the signal meter for one sat, but if you set up a h-h mount, it will be inconvienent.
The best is get a portible sat meter which can indentify sats. Sadoun carries them. I wish I could afford one...:-(

It would be nice to have the receiver near you but it's not always so conveinent to do so. What would be great is if the receiver had a UHF remote that way all you'd need is your portable TV and a remote
