Know anything of Starband/Directway SAT Internet Install?

I have seen quite a few used starband systems on ebay for less than 200 USD and their high speed service is far less than what local DSL providers charge... but I want to know how much more difficult is it to install one of these systems than an FTA or DishNet system?

Does anyone have any experience with Starband or even a Directway installation? Does anyone use their services?

Re: Know anything of Starband/Directway SAT Internet Install

I beleive these dishes have to be installed by a Starband/DirectWay certified installers. Not harder than FTA system since Starband/DiretWay use linear as well. The reason why users can't set them up by themself becuase these kind of system is 2 way communication, both uplink and downlink.

what dtsexpert said... The system is not too bad to install, but will need commissioning by an authorized installer (CVACS). This is partly due because of the Rx-Tx nature of VSAT systems (co-pol, cross-pol issues and FCC regs).

BTW, I use Starband.

Starband internet

If you take Starband's free online course, anybody can be an authorized installer. I took with no problem and installed my own system. The main thing is to have a signal strength meter to point dish. The 480 system is the best for the simple reason that it is hardware independent, ie. windows/linux/mac and more secure, ie. nat or hardware firewall as opposed to a software firewall.

That's interesting... I thought you had to be sponsered by a dealer, or at least have a dealer ID, in order to gain access to the test.
