First time installation not going well, please help.

Can someone tell me if I can get Amazonas1 from Rochester, NY.

I have been having a hard time to get a lock on this sat, the signal strength appears
to be 70- 73 tops, but I get 0 quality.

I live in zip 14624 and using a 30' dish with a dual universal lnb, Captive works 800S receiver using an elevation angle of 37.5, azimuth 156.2, and LNB skew -17.2, still can't lock.

Am I too far north to get Amazonas 1? I am totally new at this, so I imagine that I must be doing something wrong even after following the instructions of aiming the dish to the letter.

    HELP!.

    Hi yellowhat
Sorry to hear that you are having a problem setting up your system. Are you using RG6 Coaxial Cable? What do you have the Lo Frequency set to in the menus in the receiver for Amazonas 1 61W should be 9750/10600 universal. I went to Satellite Finder / dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com and I came up with these settings for that zip code. ev 41.0 azim (true) 160.6 azim(mag) 173.7 skew -14.6. The key is you must be searching for signal while the receiver is on a valid transponder or your searching for nothing. Try entering in this transponder 11888/H/5280 That should be work.. As long as you have a clear view you should be able to receiver that satellite its not below the horizon.

    Hi Don,
I am using RG6, I did not set the Lo frequency in the menu, I did an auto scan (red button). I am trying to figure out how to enter the transponder parameters. I have a dual universal lnb with a CaptiveWorks 800S. Alas, it is 32degrees today in Rochester, so I will wait until the weekend when it is somewhat warmer to tackle pointing the dish again.
Should I be using true instead of magnetic azimuth? Thanks for the help I will keep you updated with the results.
