No signal at all
I installed as directions, but I don't see any signal on screen. Question is, If I put the dish (let say close to the suppose-to-be position) close enough, I should see some signal, right? But I saw None. Could it be bad receiver?
Later that day, I went out to buy SatAlign 2(signal strength finder) plug it in between LNB and receiver. It didn't show any light. Was it supposed to light even if I plug in only the receiver side? It didn't have any light on? I could only think that Could it be receiver problem? anyone can explain.. Matt |

Fortec Star PLATINUM CI Digital Satellite Receiver
FS80P 31" Fortec ULN2: Sadoun UNIVERSAL Linear DUAL Ku 0.4 dB LNBF Live in Gardena, CA I have leveled the post, and set the dish to 132 degree from North, and elevation about 45 degree. still no signal (0%) ------------------------------------------------- ps: with a Sat Signal Finder, Do I have to connect the LNB side to get it working? I tried to connect it both side but, it didn't have the light on. I want to eliminate problems one by one. |

try changing the elevation on the dish up or down by 5 degrees these Fortec dishes have been known to be off that much on the scale.

I have tried every angles I could to try to get the signal, still no success.
Question now is, Is the Signal Finder supposed to make sound when you connect it from the Sat Receiver (just one side)? It doesn't do that when I connect it. How can I check if the receiver gives any power out to the Sat Finder or LNB? Anyone who has Sat finder, please help me. check out my setting at http://www.bangkoksamurai.com/sat.html Last edited by taveechai; 07-19-2009 at 10:00 PM. |

You are doing everything right, from the pics you show. The only thing might be the scale on the dish, sometimes that edge/bolt thing does now show the right value. Sometimes you need to go up to 50 or down to 40 to find the sat...
did you take your receiver out next to your dish, hooked up with very short cables and a small tv? It's impossible to aim the dish without watching the quality/lock signal level while you move the dish in very small increments.

Please answer me..
Can you answer me this question? I never had a signal finder. Is it supposed to make any sound when you connect it to the receiver? If it is, then my receiver has a problem, right?
thanks |

I dont know. Never had one.
Always used the recievers indicator bar as my signal meter.

I asked another person to be in the room to watch the signal (communicated with walkie talkie). It was none, Can it be the receiver problem? If it was your case, what would you do to check to eliminate problems?

although doing the walkie talkie thing is possible it makes it very diffilcult to set this up.
The aiming spot is very small and easy to miss. If it was my setup I'd take a small tv and receiver out to the dish and do the adjustments there.

one of his postings had a link to external pic hosting site, and some pictures.
The install looks good. Shows the sat pointing in right direction (like the compass shot!) Its a stationary dish - no motor.

By the way, could you recommend a portable TV for me? I will buy one on EBAY for next time installing. Thanks so much, Now I can sleep. |

You should be able to find a 13'" digital tube type tv for about 100 bucks at most big stores.
I have to get one someday, right now I use a 25" tube type Tv needless to say it's a bit awkward.

After I bought this signal finder, it showed sign of working (Pitch sound) even I connected just one side to the receiver (in the Antenna setup mode). Then I connected other side, it made more sense (the gauge went from 0 to 100). From that point, I went outside and followed direction of signal finder. Turn out I just needed to adjust a little bit more from what I set to get the peak signal. This new position made a peak sound. I locked that position. I then went back to my room, re-scanned the satellites. It just worked. Got signal 66% or more and my day was over.
I'm happy with the result, thank guys. |
