help please

hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue i have. i bought a motorized sadoun satellite system (80CM dish). I set up everything and followed the directions, however the only place where i managed to place my dish and get a signal and quality of 40% was my balcony i got the IA5kU 97.0 west (works fine with 40%), which was the only direction i can get. i tried to move my dish using the motor to other directions such as echostar 6,8 (110.W), but no luck at all, it seems that the motor i purchased is useless if only get 97.0 west whcih only has a bunch of arabic channels. if someone could help me i would greatly appreciate it this dish is driving me crazy. by the way i live in an apartment in williamsburg VA (23188), which is 3rd floor and has a clear view to air? is there another place other than where i placed the dish? or can i be reffered to a specialist dish installer>??? help!!!

Hello bahjaa, and welcome to the forum

bassed on zipcode 23188, I have gathered the following:

your latitude 37.317768 N, longtitude 76.763424 W
Your true south compass heading is 190 to 191
Your true south sat will be AMC 5 at 79 W
what kind of motor do you have???LNB? Reciever?
do you have a clear view facing south? south east and south west? trees or buildings?

I can write it all out for you but its much easier of you took some time and get aquainted with this site and read ALL of the installation instructions.

Once you have read everything and you are still having trouble then please post your questions. I am including some good links that I suggest you read and really go through these links as they will save you a lot of time and headache.

gather all of your settings and numbers from this link.

http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installati...Calculator.htm
this is for stationary link setup so you can see if you can at least get other birds manually before you start scanning the arc. So you will at least know what satelites are in your path based on your view.

I find this very informative:

make sure you have good clear view to get good signal...

Hi bahjaa, I live in the same region as you and can offer some advice.
Start with these settings:
Put your motor's elevation on 38.
Put your dish's elevation on 32.
Command your motor to reset to "reference position" and disconnect it.
Connect the coax directly to the LNBF.
Swing the whole assembly around the mounting pole to due south and tighten it.
Make sure the mounting pole is absolutely plumb in all directions (don't use the top of the pipe, it's uneven, instead measure across the U-bolts and along the pipe's vertical).

For us we are going to tune in the satellite at 79 W.L. which is going to be good enough for what we're doing. Tune the receiver AMC5 at 79.0 W.L. at 11742 Vertical.
Peak your dish by adjusting azimuth (direction) and elevation on the DISH elevation gauge (NOT the MOTOR).

Re-connect the motor between your receiver and LNBF.
Now command the motor to point to 79 W.L. and re-peak it again--it will probably be a minor azimuth (not elevation) adjustment at this point.
Command the motor to point to 121 W.L. and re-peak. Push the feed-arm up and down to see if you need to adjust elevation.
Command the motor to point to 97 W.L. and re-peak, also nudge the feed-arm to see if you need to adjust elevation.
Command the motor to point to 79 W.L. and re-peak, also nudging the feed arm.

You will need to repeat the last three steps a couple of times before you'll be satisfied.
If you're still having a hard time then you'll have to adjust the MOTOR's elevation and repeat everything above again.

Good luck!

Hello again Bahjaa,

Take the time to read this thread few times at least, you are interested in item# 3 through item# 8. This article talks about Cband motorized setup, but the principle is the same for Ku band. It break down the setup process in fine easy detail and and simple steps. I read it 3 times and everytime I read it, I found more tips that were very helpful.
