USALS and DiSEqC 1.2

I tried to setup my FTA system (Fortec Start Classic with 90cm Dish&HH90 motor. Followed the installation help pape and a bit confused about using USALS and DisSEqC 1.2. I saw the two options in the receiver. With DisSEqC 1.2 I can move the dish clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the dish. With USALS I cannot. So, which option should I use?

It setting up USALS, you should have seen a spot to input your Longitude and Latitude settings. This is imperitive to get the motor to track right with this option.

What happens, is the receiver works with the motor to calculate, based on your coordinates, how much the motor should move to get to a satellite.

With 1.2, you manually adjust the location of the satellites and "store" them along the way as you go entering them into your setup.

I am in the process of installing an "Invacom QPH-031" circular / linear polorize LNB. I am going to have to use a DiSEqc switch to join the RG6 for the HH90 motor, therefore I have no choice but to set up for DiSEqc instead of USALS, Is this correct?

Yes, either will work. I would suggest using USALS for the motor... much easier to set up, assuming you've calculated your azimuth/elevation correctly.

I (just yesterday!) installed my HH90/Invacom QPH-031 system. This was the first motorized satellite system I had set up by myself. It went relatively smoothly. I think Sadoun should include a small tube of SPF30 sunblock in his 'installation kit', though..

When I did the initial installation, I wired from the receiver to the motor, from the motor directly to one of the linear LNBF ports -- makes it a little easier when you're aiming the dish; there's one less parameter to worry about. Darkness fell, mostly because I spent half the afternoon watching television on the roof... so the DiSEqC switch wasn't installed until this morning. Just install the switch between the motor and the LNB. Write down or remember which LNB (circular/linear) is in each port -- you will need to know this when you're in 'Antenna Setup' and setting up the satellites. I just put both circular LNBs on the odd number ports (1,3) and the linear LNBs on the even number ports (2,4).

If you've added a bunch of linear satellites before putting the switch into the system, don't forget to go into 'Antenna Setup' and set the DiSEqC port for each of those.

All in all, you'll find it a fairly easy installation (easier, I think, than installing a fixed dish), and well worth the effort.

(currently scanning Nimiq 1/3; Nimiq 2 and the EchoStars are next...)

Thanks Briand, I was hoping to be able to use the USALS. It seems to be much easier to set up. When installing the rotor-s tube to the dish fixing clamps, does it matter how much of the tube hangs out the bottom of the clamps? Some photos show the tube flush with the bottom and others show it with about 1 inch hanging out. Seems to me that this could change the dish alignment. By the way, no need for SPF30 here...it's raining!

No, it doesn't matter. Every point along the radius (the motor arm) travels the same number of degrees -- although, if you get too far from the pivot, the dish will skew out of the path as it turns. Ideally, the center of the dish should be in alignment with the center spindle of the motor (the axis of rotation). On my dish (same as yours) it looked pretty close when the clamp gripped the motor arm at the end. (ie: no significant portion of the tube extends beyond the clamp).
