true south for Montreal

Hello ,

I'm trying to put my 90 cm dish on HH90 motor. i did some claculation to get the true south of montreal. my latitude is 45.5 and according to the table in Sadoun site I found that for declination angle to add , thers only 45 and 46 . i took the value inbetwwen : for 45 : 6.81 and for 46 is 6.92 .I took 6.865 and added it to 180 so the ture south i found is about 187.
Should i take this value starting fro north to east to south to west so i get the ture south like 97 w? in this case my true south is the satellite 97w exactely? is that correct?

thanks for help

Montreal is at Latitude 45.3N and Longitude 73.4W (geographic azimuth 188 degrees, reading on the compass). Your closest true south satellite would be AMC5 at 79W.

There is no complex calculations to finding your true south satellite. It is based on your longitude. Since you have a 73.4W long, and AMC 5 is at 79W ... then AMC 5 is your closest useable ku band satellite to find your signal with the motor. It is only about 6 degrees west of your longitude.

Like Druze said there is no calculation how to find your true south sat.
There is the east and west part of longitude, 0 -180 degrees East and 0 - 180 degrees west. This gives you the full circle 360 degrees. North America is in the 0 -180 degrees west longitude. Montreal is at 73.4 degrees west longitude location. Now going from 0 degrees West (0 degrees is somewhere in Great Britain) you stop at 73.4 and that’s where Montreal is. Looking at the list of FTA satellitesm available, http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Satellites/Satellite-List.htm you will find that AMC5 at 79 west is the closest one to your location (73.4).

I would think that SBS6 is the closest sat. If Montreal is 73.4W, SBS6 is at 74W and much closer than AMC5.

I haven't been on SBS6 in a while, but my guess would be that Ohio News Network transponder is still active and can be used to tune in during setup.

That's true that SBS6 is the closest one but there is nothing to pick up. AMC5 has a good signal and for sure he will be able to pick something up at TP 11742 V SR 11110.
