Update & results of Dead HH90 motor

Having trouble with install of Fortec 786NA receiver connected to HH90 motor.

Symptom - motor is not responding / acts strange.

Previously using USALS (worked fine for months).

If I attempt to use USALS at this point, motor does not respond.
So I figured I'd "loosen" it up using DISEQC 1.2 to manually adjust.

If I say "go to zero" where should this thing go to?
- extreme left, center or extreme right?

I'm trying anything I can do with 1.2 to positon the motor. With the remote, cursor over to the "move" spot, hold down left key to move. I let go, set remote down & go over to door to look at dish. Its moving - sometimes but not always - by itself- all the way to the extreme end of range...

Suggestions?
(did unplug 110v, reseat F connectors, reset box to factory defaults)
What else?

OK more info...

I found a stab website in Italy, they say that the 0 position is midpoint on the motor, so it mean "centered"... OK fine mine's not working that way.

I brought the 786NA box home and removed my Ultra and put it in its place, where I have an SM312D motor. It's been pesky in the past, but actually it's been working pretty good since spring.
Anyway, this motor moves just fine with the 786NA so I know it's not the box. There is either something wrong with the cable (unlikey) or there is something flakey with the HH90...

Next step - bring both boxes back to the site where the HH90 is installed, drag them and some 110v power up to the roof and hook up right next to the motor.

For now, my experience with this Stab Motor is not-so-good. This is the 2nd one now I've had (1st one quit after 2 minutes on the roof, replaced under warrenty) and this one goes weird on me now after less than just a few months in use...

Will report back after the roof test.

Went on roof today with small tv, short RG cable and tried to find out the problem with this HH90 motor.

Well, it's the motor. When I try to use either usals, or diseqc 1.2 to drive the motor to AMC5 (my south sat) it gets there, then cycles back & forth between that and something like 81 degrees.

I've had this motor for some time now. What's the warrenty status from Sadoun now on these? or am I SOL?

If you bought it within the year, it should be covered by warranty. If you bought it after 2/7/05 it should have 3 years warranty. Check your receipt and send it to us if you bought it from us.

follow the return procedure here: http://sadoun.com/Sat/Shipping/return_policies.htm

If you don't have the receipt and it seems that the 1st one was over a year, it is not covered by warranty anymore.

Great. only lasted 11 months.

Well, now here's the dilemma...

Buy the same (HH90, with known POS track record in my experience), which gives me a bum unit with spare parts, but it also gives me a 3 year warrenty, look forward to the costs of replacing it under warrenty every year,

Or SM312D with it's problems i've had with the the one I also have installed at home....

Results:

Sent motor back to Sadoun for an "out of warrenty" evaluation. They sent it back (at my expense) with a note "not repairable".

I considered buying a new one. Sadoun would not price match a cheaper vendor of same item online.

I had nothing to lose. In the manual for the HH90 from Stab, it says "2 years manufacturer's warranty". I emailed them in Italy. Shipping to Italy would probably cost as much as buying a new one, but thought I'd see what they had to say.

Within a couple days, I got an email back from Stab Italy. They said they'd contact Fortec Canada (their North America main distributor) and they'd work with me on getting it fixed. Within a day I got another email from Fortec Canada, with an RMA. So I put in in the Post office to them ($15).

10 days later, UPS shows up with replacement. Looks like it's either refurbished/demo, defineltly not new, but I don't care. Installed just this noon, and it's moving the dish just fine. Had to resort to Diseqc 1.2 to get a signal by nudging it a hair to the west... (it's off just a bit so USALS won't get a signal). I'll dial it in when I have a bit more time and can drag a tv to the roof of the building.

My hat is off to Stab Italy, and Fortec Canada for their excellent customer service.
