Stab HH 90 Motor dead
My recently Stab HH90 motor bought last year about this time while I was visiting the USA has stopped working. I recently received the replacement board for this motor since it was acting up strange back last year when I first tried to install this motor. Now after replacing the board the motor does not move, just makes a low noise of sort. It is mounted onto a 64cm antenna and I am using a Viewsat VS 2000 Ultra receiver. This receiver is working fine. What must I do? I live in Concepcion, Chile and I do not believe there is knowone here that can make repairs. Should I just buy another motor. Maybe the HH100 or the HH120, it might be about the same to ship this one for repairs as to get another new one? Thanks, Tom.

In my experience, I have found these motors to be extremely sensitive to power spikes. Therefore, be sure to have dish, motor setup to be properly grounded. I also have high quality surge suppressors over the AC power supply. Unless you have expertise in electronics, it would be easier to buy a new motor and take precautions.

Stab HH90 Motor dead
Thomas:
Did you fix your problem with the motor? I suggest to read the post by ftadude: Intermittent "no or bad signal error" dated 2/11/08. My HH120 acted dead for awhile also, but it was not. Louis5 |

HH-90 problem (fix)
My experience with an HH-90 motor, 2 years ago I installed the motor before it got finished the final setup the motor failed, (motor would not move). Stab sent me a new logic board and I installed it tested inside the motor works, (great I thought), outside go through the setup procedure the motor again failed I threw it in the junk. I removed it from the junk just recently (some people don't throw anything away, I'm one of them) and to my surprise the motor worked, (no mount bracket) I mounted the motor in the house with a 1 meter dish and 2 mount pipes joined by a fence rail joiner, rock solid by the way. The motor was very jerky slow and locked up. The upper motor mount bolt was tightened to 15 ft.lb. I loosened this bolt and re torqued to 30 in.lb. no more and the motor works smooth. The next test will be to reinstall everything back outside after the 6ft. of snow at my pole mount drops so I can get at it. Fortecs tech people where I bought it had never heard of this type of problem. It's my thought the 15 ft.lb torque is compressing the metal very slightly close to the internal motor mount and tight gear tolerances causing the binding. This may also explain why some units are heat sensitive, metal expansion causes the motor or gears to bind, cooling causes contraction and the motor works again till the next time it heats up. I hope my findings might help others to get there failed products out and see if there's work after a similar type of failure, and before loosing the item to the scrap pile or worse gone all together. Let others know if you find a solution to your particular problem helps other to find answers to there problems.

In the end the motor FAILED, the USALS will not work, after I input the local coordinates the motor failed to move to the true south location for my area like it is supposed to, the motor went to the zero position after saving, then going to the next satellite the motor moved the dish to full east or west depending on where I sent it then returned to the zero position even if I asked it to go the the next satellite to scan in it returned only to zero. This was like this with no less than 7 different receivers. The Diseqc 1.2 side didn't save the satellite information so the unit would not move automatically to the proper satellite, I had to move the dish manually to the satellite I wanted then watch TV. I ordered a new motor but not a Stab HH unit. Problem is bad internal communication between motor and all tested receivers.
Units tested with this motor were 3 Pansat 2500a's, Fortec Lifetime Ultra, Neusat sp6000 premium, Coolsat 5000 platinum and a Viewsat 2000 Ultra V-1. All with the most recent Factory binaries and all with updated satellite and transponder information mostly input by the remotes. Signal quality across the satellite arc was 85 plus from east to west on all visible linear satellites from my location, using a 39 inch dish. Last edited by bubby-joe; 02-02-2009 at 07:38 PM. |
