HH90 and Xtreme issue.. I'm losing hair here..

Hey guys, this will sound easy to you I'm sure, but I'm just downright puzzled and frustrated at this point.

I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada, and am using a 76cm dish, HH90 motor with a VS Xtreme receiver.

I've set my motor elevation to 53.5 (same as the latitude of my position) and aimed at my true south satellite, S*tMex 6 113.0W, with the dish elevation at 37 deg. It's a straight setup, no switches, inverters on the line, with a circular lnb.

We have a constant signal of 66, which varies from 62 - 68, and no quality, ever. We aimed the dish using a compass and tried aiming at both true south and magnetic south, and haven't picked up anything. I didn't expect anything from S*tMex 113W being up north so crazy far (not sure if thats a valid reason), so we tried fiddling with 110 to get a signal from there which we have received before without the use of the motor, so I know the parts are in working order, and nothing found. Same goes for messing around with 82, 91, 61.5 and 148. Nadda.

Even went as far as to use a sat finder, got the signal from 110 but no Q on the receiver, nothing when scanned or powered off and back on. Signal remains in the 62-68 zone.

I am completely stumped. I don't know if I've overlooked a setting, been given bad information, or whats happening here. If you guys could help, I'd buy you all an e-beer or something, lol.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Are you using a Fortec dish? If so try lowering the elevation 4 to 5 degrees and try aiming the dish again. The elevation scale was off on my Fortec dish It took me about 2 weeks when I first bought my dish to obtain a signal at my true south satellite. Once you find your true south satellite you will remember where it is and it will be easy to find next time.

Did you set your motor on the latitude scale or elevation scale ?

To be honest, I'm not sure what brand of dish it is. It's just a simple generic 76cm dish with no markings on it, but I had to connect the motor arm directly into the bracket of the dish, because it didn't come with an additional back bracket to connect from the dish to the motor arm, though I was told this wouldn't matter... ?

The elevation on my motor is 53.5, the same as my area of residence.

I'm also getting different dish elevations on different sites, as well as a value for "elevation" but I'm not sure what for, since It also gives me my motor elevation and dish elevation, this value means nothing to me..

You guys mind helping me out here to find my exact values for installation? I've tried numerous different setups (without changing the motor elevation) with absolutely no success. I'm pretty new to this stuff, so type slow for me, lol.

Here is the beginning of your problem. The elevation of your motor is not the same as your latitude. The latitude setting of your motor is the same. Your bracket is most likely marked on both sides. One side is marked elevation and the other is marked latitude. Set the latitude side of your motor to the same as your latitude.

It's already set like that. I must not be hitting the arc accurately because I can get a super strong signal on 148.0W and beans on 91.0W, vice versa when we try to accomodate.

I'm assuming I'm not hitting the arc accurately, but I was told my true south satellite is S*tMex 6 at 113.0W, which I can't even get an increased signal on. Can anyone clarify that that is the satellite I should be aiming at? And if I can go off course and try another if I can't get 113.0W?

Satmex 6 is your south sat BUT the beam does not reach you. 148 and 91 are of no use to you. I would be trying to use 123 (G10R). What type of lnbf are you using?

If you have a circular lnbf you could try for 110 to align your dish.but as far north as you are a 76cm dish might not be big enough for linear sats would recommend a 1 meter dish.

I'm using a circular lnbf. I've tried aiming for 110 but have a hell of a time doing that, but will try again with a little more patience

Can I still manage the arc by aiming for 123.0W? Or would you guys suggest trying for 110?

you should be able to hit the arc with 123 but 110 is a stronger bird so the signal should be easier to fine and its closer to your true south sat so should make it easier to get on the arc.

It's about -28 celcius (-18 fahrenheit) so I ain't fixing anything tonight, especially when it hits -40 tomorrow lol, so I figure I'll just bug you guys with more questions..

I was curious, which birds can I get with a circular lnb, and being as far north as I am... ?

You will only get about 5 or 6 channels with a circular lnbf and a VS receiver.

I'm assuming you mean satellites?

What products would you recommend for optimal motor usage?
Right now I have a VS2000 Xtrm
76cm Dish (Generic) with a circular lnbf..
hh90 stab motor

the true starters kit basically, lol

You assume incorrectly. I meant channels. Circular is almost exclusively used for subbed programming like DN. FTA is linear. The DN people are using some linear also but almost no circular FTA out there. Over the Atlantic are a couple sats that are circular but they are C Band (not doable on your dish).
