Sirius lifetime subscription

The Lifetime subscription for $500 ends January 31. This looks like a good deal, any comments? I'm thinking about taking this offer before it ends.

My only comment would be who will have a longer lifespan -- you or Sirius?? These companies like to sell lifetime subs to raise tons o' capital then a few years later they file for Chapter 11 .... :mozilla_surprised: Remember all those health clubs in the '80s that did that?

A little over three years is the break even point with there monthly price. So if they last that long I would be okay. I really hate more monthly bills and I dont want to pay $13 a month from now on plus they can raise the rates.
On the other hand $650 is a lot to put out at once.
I will have to make a decision soon. My reason for choosing Sirius is mainly for WSM which I miss from there C- band days.

Life of the Receiver

I am less concerned about the life of company, or myself, as I am the life of the receiver. If the receiver dies after the one year warranty is up, is the "lifetime subscription" any good? Does it cover the lifetime of the receiver, or the lifetime of the person who owns the receiver???

I thought those receivers were dirt cheap -- like $60 or so. For that price they are throw away items. No big deal if you had to buy a new one every year.

I think his point was not about having to possibly replace a $60 receiver... it was about whether or not his $650 "lifetime subscription" to the service would continue on for -his- life, or whether it ended with the life of the $60 receiver...

I don't have the answer, either... have you contacted Sirius and asked someone there? It probably wouldn't hurt to get something in writing, just in case...

It's "his" lifetime I believe. The paying subscriber. Makes sense.

I asked Customer Service in January.
They told me it was four moves. Currently I'm subbed, they said I had 3 more moves to switch recievers, remaining.

But what your told means nothing. I was deactivated when I had the unit
on. The reciever lost all channels in the guide, which is normal.
It saved the last channel I was on. But since I was not listening to Channel 184 Weather & Emergency it lost this channel also.
You need Channel 184 to get it activated. If the unit was turned off
184, would still be there. Both all of Sirius & the manufactory's
told me the unit was ruined., throw it away. Sirius told me if I wanted, I could buy a new reciever and pay another Lifetime Subscription fee, even though it was their mistake desubbing. They told me I was running a game on them to beat them out of paying. It took me a marathon of stopping everything in my life for 3 days, as I worked constantly to save myself $600.
I found a way to tell CSR, how to use their keyboard buttons to unlock
my current channel, and restore only 184 into sight on the unit.
Once you have 184, your in business.

Worst part of subbing is CSR's. Took me approxiametley 70 phone calls over 6 months, to clean up their stupidty.

I'm glad I have one bill. They constantly would desub, when I was payed.
They don't open their mail. Took 3 weeks, for them to open & post.
Then a month later, desubbbed again, saying I had $500 credit, but
paid late, you got shut down, becuase you owe us $15 in late fees.

All major companies, especially with Wall Street Stock & Exchange, Securities want their cash flow in their banks, not sitting in an envelope unknown of its where abouts for 3 weeks.

Now back to the Channel 184 stories.

In the beginning, they actually deactivated my reciever, before it was actually subbed to. This was a real mess, now I had reciever that was
worse than a virgin reciever, it could't get Weather & Emergency Channel 184, which is needed to activate. They could't figure out to do and gave up. After being down for three months, and so many phone calls I found somebody nice enough to know how to get me back up.

I refuse to give anybody a credit card #.
Companies like AOL, will bill you after you cancel . And cancel your credit card. They then find your new card #, start billing to it without authorazation. I had a new card still sealed in its evelope, AOL found a way to get. & use without authorazation.

Since I would't give Sirius a credit card #, they could not get their system to creat a bill for me, but could find ways to decativate me any wild
day or hour, a couple times a month.
I finally caved in, 6 months of begging them to please create a bill.
All companys do this, they have to, to get paid and properly post.

I told Sirius, this is really sad. Do you know what its called when somebody doesn't know how to take your money, but wants to?
Its called turning down free money! You could have it, but you don't.
Your not smart enough to get it, its free, see it right there? Take it, its free.

After this story I was given a name in accounting, saying she would be emailing me. Never happened.
If a client of mine, wanted to pay me $500, I'll make sure I get it.
I'll take every $13 payment also, in fact I'd fire anybody in my business,
who effects my cash flow. I consider it close to stealing.

To save the lifespan of any Sirius unit, one trick is to turn the
Brightness & Contrast Controls to the lowest setting.
They run hot, this helps.

I hope I never have to talk to them again.
Each phone call I made, always needed a supervisor, was on hold a lot,
& they always went over 1 hour in time.
So approxiametly over 100 hours of my time, caused me to neglect my job and space people, cleaning up the Sirius mess. Facts are I'm still way behind because of their nonsense. At least ten of the calls lasted 15 -30 minutes, because I was hung up on. Then had to go expain the current days status all over again.
I found some CSR's say nothing of this particular part of your story exists
in our notes. Then next call, CSR see everything in notes,

I sent them a letter of their internal problems. I was ignored.
I was told they were going to compensate me for my time.
I guess my ideas of cash flow, saving losing future subs, and reciever tricks are too much for them to swallow their pride to admit to.

Hopefully, you can believe what I was told, 4 moves.
You need to call at least four different times to verify.

Its a great service once its running.
All XM has thats better is MLB.

WOW !!! That's a real nightmare. Sorry to hear about your frustrating issues with Sirius. Think I'll just stick with good ol' FM Stereo - at least its free.

Programming is different than customer service. Still glad I made the move. My message is a warning what to look out for.
CS has their hands tied, they are card readers if they can do that.
I did deal with a half dozen who were excellent, who wanted to help,
but they could't because thats how their system is set up. No long distance phone calls allowed. A few, had no problem turning me back on.
And a few called me a freeloader.
