Need a good signal meter for the Arctic

I'm looking for a new meter that will work in Alaska. I have a Sathawk, an AcuTrac22 Pro and a Satellite Finder. Nothing works very well further north than 119 except the spectrum analyser that the local DISH supplier used. Once I stumble on a satellite, such as T5, I get a great signal. I suspect the problem is that these satellites are close to the horizon (less than 10 degrees), and that there is more radiation interference in the Arctic because of the Aurora Borealis. In any event, I'm looking for a signal meter that has a better chance of working up here than the three mentioned.

No. It is self powered and identifies the satellites like the SatHawk

So, is the Birddog better than the Sathawk?

My problem with the Sathawk is that you have to be right on the bird in order for it to see it, so it's only good for fine tuning. East of about 119, I get pretty much a steady background with the AcuTrac or the audible Satellite Finder because of the background noise and the closeness to the horizon, even though I can grab a satellite every now & then with pretty good signal strength. I can pick up 148 with a three foot dish and both the AcuTrac and Satellite Finder respond great, since I'm at longitude 149. It's just pretty hit & miss for the eastern birds & the weather is pretty bad to be fooling around on the roof for very long. Will the Birddog tell you when you're getting close, or do you have to be gnat's ass on top of it (like the Sathawk) for it to respond?

You have to be "gnat's ass" (I like that... ) on top ot it -- although the meter will increase as you approach the satellite - sort of helpful. Better stock up on battery packs because the Birdog batteries HATE cold weather.

The NEW SatHawk 4000 has TWO signal meter bars and One Quality bar. The Old SatHawk 3000 had only one signal meter bars and One Quality bar

The SH4000 2nd signal bar is for fine tuning.
