EITHERNET and DIRECTV DVR

Hi,

I think I am ready to buy a DirecTv Receier with DVR (Tivo). I have one large problem... I do not have a home telephone line. I decided to subscribe to internet with a cable company, and now I use only my cell phone for telephone service. I have found this to be a good arrangement that saves me about $25 a month.

So, I want to subscribe to DirecTv, but I do not want to have to buy a telephone line. I have read there are DirecTv DVR receivers available that can connect to Eithernet instead of Telephone, but I cannot find any of these...anyone know what models have this or where to buy them?

Thanks, Mark

Mark,
You might call DirecTV explaining your situation. As I know, if you are not interested in buy PPV, telepone line is not needed. Just my opinion.

I don't know about the built in network functions of the Linux for TIVO, but tivo will not operate without a connection to the internet.

It reports what you watch, and also has to have access to software updates, If you tivo is unable to reach its home site after activation it will cease to operate.
