Can I use my DirecTV dish and LNBF to receive FTA channels?

Yes & No

YES: Since DirecTV and Dishnetwork use small dishes (18"-24") and circular polarity LNBS, you can only receive the FTA channels from their satellites. However, you will not be able to receiver the encrypted channels. For those channels you will need to susbscibe and pay your monthly fee to Dish Network or DirecTV to be able to receiver the channels. We do not condone illigal reception of encrypted signal.

NO: Since the other satellites (i.e. Telstar 5, Galaxy 3C, etc) use much weaker signal transmission, and linear polarization, you will need a bigger dish (30"+) and a linear type LNBF like the type available here:

How about ... If I have a Direct TV dish and lnb currently set up and working. If I run a connection from the second lnb to the FTA receiver would I receive any channels (FTA or otherwise) and if so do you have any idea what channels I would receive?

DirecTV use a different type of transmission that the FTA MPEG2 DVB receivers will not receive. If you aim your dish to DISHnetwork, then you will receive the FTA music channels and some promo channels.

LNBF LO freq need to be setup to 11250 in your receiver

I am considering purchasing one of your FTA receivers to use with my DSS satellite/LNB to receive Galaxy 10R. Which setting should I use for the LNB using the following receivers:

Fortec Lifetime Ultra
Fortec 786NA
Coship 2300A

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Thanks for your reply but a friend of mine was able to pickup FTA with di$#net LNBs on his 786 so are you saying that the DTV Hughes LNB is fundamentally different and if so, in what way? His LO setting for his 786NA was wide 11250 with diseqc enabled and his signal was 69% with 99% quality.

No, the LNBs are the fundamentally the same - I'm saying that an 18" DSS dish is too small to pick up anything FTA from Galaxy 10R.

Re: AMC4 satellite

No. You need a larger dish (30 or 36") with linear ku lnbf.
