Yes, some of the equipment available here is getting a little better.
However standard c band lnb's such as would attatch to a corotor type feed are not voltage controled, and the c band lnbf is not a viable alternative for someone seeking quality signal strength. As for the Aston unit it's my understanding that it can only control magnetic (ferite) polorizers and not the mechanical type found on corotor type feedhorns.
As for the positioners I have a V-box myself that I've used for some time on the Pansat330a, and it works great. But again that's just an extra piece of equipment to add to the stack.
Many recivers state they have "built in positioner", but only have diseqc positioning control.
Also one complaint I've always had with the american sold units is that they are limited in their number of satellite entries and positions that can be stored. My new unit has capacity for 131 sat entries, and I have over 70 of them in use. ( seperate entries for c and ku). Don't even get me started on the user control of the settings and data. :lol:
Don't get me wrong, I think most of the equipment we have here is great. But I'm always looking for something that will do a little more a little better.
