No, it is not a software upgrade. It requires hardware upgrade and completely new design. So at this time the neither SatHawk 3000 nor the Birdog support DPPlus LNBFs.

Newbie here, can someone explain who is installing the DP Plus LNB's (i.e., DirecTV, WildBlue, Dish Network, etc.) and why are these so different that the Sathawk and Birdog meters can't be used with this type LNB?

Thanks, CMMtn

DPP (aka DishPro Plus) LNBFs draw a lot of current (! 500mA) from receiver. SatHawk300 or BIRDOG can provide this much power and will shut down right away if you hook it up to one of these LNBFS. the meter will think there is a short in the connection (because of the high power draw) and will turn off. Repetitive tries will damage the meters.

It is advised to have a DISHPro lnbf with you to align the dish with it. Then remove it and put the DPP lnbf in its place.

Next generation meters will be able to handle the DPP, but not the current ones.

Good luck

Admin,
Thanks so much for that information, it all makes good sense.

Back to my other original question, is anyone you know installing the DPP's as there standard installation? Reason I'm asking, I'm interested in purchasing a Sathawk or Birdog meter (your recommendation would be appreciated) to keep my two satellite dishes fine tuned. I presently have a DirecTV Phase III (TripleSat) LNB for my HDTV and a WildBlue Pro Internet service (not sure the LNB type ). So, I don't want to dish out (pun intended) that kind of cash for one of these meters if the WildBlue setup is using one of the DPP LNB's. Yes, I realize that these are expensive pieces of equipment for this purpose, but just another toy in the toy box .

Thanks again, CMMtn

Thanks Sadoun for the info,

That sparks a couple of other questions, does the meter HAVE to be a dual type meter for WildBlue? And another thing, how do you know your on the correct satellite? As with the Sathawk and Birdog is provides that information on the readout.

Thanks again, CMMtn

Talking We are...

We are currently installing dp plus' in our area (eastern tennessee, south west virginia and western north carolina) which are supposed to replace the current method for installing superdish. All the local channels on superdish used to come in on the 105 and now the have been integrated to the 110 so we are currently no longer installing the superdish and have begun using the dish pro plus with all installs replacing the super with the dish 500. And to answer your question it has nothing to do with power draw... the dp plus has a built in switch which replaces the 34 switch making installation a lot easier with less to ground so the 110 and the 119 signal shoot out of the 119 side only. With these 2 combined the meter cannot lock on the satellite because there are 2 signals coming through the 1 cable. We usually peak the dish using a bird dog and a standard dishpro lnbf and then after the dish is set tight we swap the lnb to the dp plus.
