either meter would be great. save you from pulling all your stuff out to the dish to make adjustments.

I have a birdog and happy to have it. Saves a lot of time on locating sats.

Meters

I can't say that one meter is better than the other, I have a Sathawk 3000 that has not worked from day one,DOA. This is the one that I 'won' on this site, about three months ago. I'm sure that it would make it a lot easier to do an install, but I am still using an OLD borrowed meter that only works when you shake it. And thats my two cents.

I believe a meter is as good as its software.

SH vs BD

So far Birdog has Sathawk beat overall.

Sathawk lost its programming early on costing a return shipping fee and down time and it has gone thru a battery.

Birdog has good battery life and programming always is improving.

Just lately Birdog has lost its 'found sat' sound alert so I may find Sathawk closer in my rating if this turns out to be a lasting problem.

Also Birdog seems to have a bit better recognition of signal quality but this may be a result of Sathawk battery weakness.

Birdog also connects and handles a bit better with everything on the front of the unit - Sathawks side connection can be more awkward and pull the unit out position more often.

Am I buying more than one Birdog - yes I am!
The outside man does a complete dish setup and point while the inside man cables and setups the IRDS.
No walkie talkies or TV and power on the roof anymore.
