Europeam Fortecstar user

Hi, I am a European (Netherlands) fortecstar user. I have recently pruchased a FS 6100 HA with a 80 GB HD. I must say it is a very good receiver.
Is the 6100 available yet in the US ? I am wondering what others think of the receiver and wherther any users use the 'more adavnced' features of it such as UCAS loaded with pentacrypt software. This is quite poular in Europe.
As there aren't many forum for Fortecstar (yet) I hope by sharing experiences we can all move forward.

Fresh Meat for the Grinder

I ordered a #4 a few days ago, which includes the 786v3, and hope to start installing it this evening. I am planning on taping with monologue the entire process (with lots of editing of course!) and will probably export the project to windows media, real media and probably a DVD with chapter points and stuff. Maybe I can upload the videos somewhere or get something else going.

This will be my second install; the first one was a Dish network-on-a-cinderblock install, which took quite a long time, so hopefully this will be even more difficult

Complete Success the First Time I Turned It On

I pointed the dish at 185.something for Telstar 5
44.something for elevation.

The deck picked up the signal right off the bat. I thought for sure I did something wrong, but it was a good signal.

I didn't have hardly anything screwed down on the dish, and I figgured I'd be in for an hour's worth of peaking the dish to even get a marginal signal. Right when I turned the Fortec receiver on and stepped through the setup procedures on the green sheet, it showed 88+ percent signal and a green bar. I went ahead and hit OK to do a full scan with reservations.. the dish mount wasn't even fully plumb! I just wanted to light it up to see how close I was. The receiver is so forgiving it picked up everything. Did a full scan in about a minute and I show channels 1 to 104 on Telstar 5.

Very nice setup.

Welcome, new users!

The most golden nugget of information I can suggest is to make sure your mount is 100 percent plumb before mounting your dish!

It's 100 times easier to troubleshoot problems, especially if it's a motorized mount. Don't for one second think that somehow it will work out, or the receiver will be able figgure it out, or you'll be close enough. This stuff is pretty picky about signal. Trust me. I still have a bad mounting job that only gets 5 or 6 sats that I need to tear down and do again.

I have installed a Fortecstar Lifetime receiver, dish and Expressvu LNB with Stab Motor and this was my first time install. I spent a day digging a hole and install a vertical post with concrete. Installation of Motor and dish is also very time consuming and could vary depending on the eqiupment.

My first dish alignement attempt failed because I didn't follow complete instructions in Stab manual but second time it worked and I was able to get signal quality and scan various satellites.

The nice thing about Fortec receiver is its easiness and compatibility with Stab motor. You don't really need to do anything once you select a satellite, Stab will move the dish automatically within seconds! I still haven't played with all Fortec's functions but by looking at its documentation, performance and picture quality, it is a very descent receiver!

My fortec star dvb786v3 receiver is awesome. I love this company fortecstar. It could of had s-video out and a bit faster drawing of OSD graphics..and what would be the best feature was USB to connect to comptuer instead of using the annoying serial cable. I bought the wrong cable first and wasted 10 bucks at radio shack.. argggh. Other than that, its splendid.

786V3 Receiver

I'm using the 786V3 reciever and motek positioner. The USALS feature of the Fortec works just fine with the motek even with the motek not being advertised USALS or DISQEC1.3 compliant. I like the USALS feature of the fortec as it's much easier for initial setup. I like the basic search functions and graphics as well as the footprint size of the receiver. The sat/channel feature is nice in grouping the channels by satellite. I like the fact that doing a channel search will not over write existing channels and pid info. Would also like to be able to input pid info without the remote software. This is only the 2nd dvb receiver I have had but for the price it's a very nice unit from my perspective.

Two thumbs up for the Fortec Star 786V3 receiver. I share what aar5ac have said and more. If this receiver was nominated for the Oscars it would have won many awards.

My FS 786v3 has been up almost a year, 24/24 a day, never turn it off.

I'm using a Lifetime slaved to my 4dtv for C and ku band coverage. The receiver is more sensitive than my satcruiser ace.
The Lifetime's menu and programming system leaves a bit to be desired, those without any satellite experience could easily get frustrated.
I do enjoy it though.

Fortec Receivers

I'm a Sadoun Satellite Dealer. I install in Sacramento California area. I used to offer the fortec 786NA model and I loved it. It's so easy to setup and very user friendly. Now since this receiver is no longer available I switched to lifetime ultra. It's a good receiver but I missed some of the 786 featurs like selecting more than one channel to be moved or deleted. fortec ultra seems to be slower at downloading channels and another problem with that is when you rescan the satellite you get the channels that you already have twice. on 786na you get only the new channel. Although you can get away with scannig one tp at a time but that is a long process. Transferring data to another receiver used to be as simple as turning the receiver on. With fortec ultra you have to be at the transfer data screen to do that.
Advantage of the Ultra over 786NA: Advanced scan.

I am using the new Ultra with power scan and simply love it. I like the fact that it has a loop out. That's handy. After a couple of years with a SatCruiser DSR101Plus+, the Fortec is much easier to use and a lot more
fun. The user manual is about as good as they get. I completely recommend the Ultra to anyone... experienced hobbyists and those just getting started.

Bought it from Sadoun online Sunday night, had the box in my office Wednesday morning!

Yeah he's commenting on a post almost 2 years old. I guess some people like to keep these threads going.

I currently Have 2 Fortec Platinum receivers, a BEC 1000 and a Coship Irdeto.

Fortec - Like the blind search, USALS, Multilanguage OSD. Dislike no ac3 need to make dual entries for a sat. One for C and the other for KU. This really becomes a mess when coupling to multiple dishes. Have yet to figure out how to enter a sat and have it usable with USALS. Not a big deal can always set with 1.2 just a pain. Tendancy to crash when searching channels after a blind search when the receiver is loaded with channels.

Coship - Picture quality is excellent. CA receiver so is great for coupling to a big dish. Do not really care for the sat setup/config. Have yet to find an easy to comprehend system to use when coupled with my 8' dish. I guess same as the Fortec. Multiple entries per sat. No crashes experienced as of yet.

BEC1000 - Easy to enter new sats. Can set LNB to each individual TP. Only one entry per sat, just specify the LNB you are using for that TP. Picture quality is comparable to the Fortec. No USALS. Multilanguage OSD but weak in appearance. Crashes frequently when loaded with 700+ channels. Sometimes deleting all channels. Has ac3

Overall I say it just depends on what you want. Dollar for feature I would rank the Fortec 1st, the BEC 2nd and finally the Coship although it does have a great picture
