What receiver would equal or be better than the Motorola 922? Are the 922 still being made and available to the public? thanks

for DC II subscription reception nothing compares to the 922 and yes they are still being sold to the public do a google search for c band and you should find a company that sell's them.

I think if I were interested in subscribing to DCII stuff, I'd prefer a 905 sidecar to a 922, of course this requires a separate analog receiver. But for the money, I think you get more capability with a good analog receiver and a sidecar. Particularly if the subscription DCII stuff goes away, along with the channel maps and stuff, I think you'd be able to get more use out of the generic analog/sidecar combination. Just my personal preference, and I know that many people would prefer an all in one solution, but I think that the 905/analog combination definitely "compares" to a 922.

I thought about a sidecar when i got my 922 but with the Battery issue with the sidecar and 920 was worried about buying a use one and as far as I know it's the only way you can get it.

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought you could still buy them new. Seems like the 905 and 922 came out about the same time. When I bought my 4200, only the 920 was available. I would have considered a sidecar if they were made then, but they weren't, so I got the 4200. Later, they came out with the 905 and 922. But re batteries, I'd bet the batteries would outlast DCII. One of my 4200s predates the 905s by several years, and it's battery is still good, the other newer one, I had the battery changed out just to be sure, but only because I had it in for another repair. I think it only costs about $60 to have the battery replaced in a 905.
