    HTS Tracker V

    Just a short question.
Is this unit any good? I'm having trouble with my present reciever and was wondering if this would be a decent replacement, the price is right.

I used to have HTS-8 and ECHOSTAR-7000, which should be similar, and they were OK receivers. Not sure about HTS-5, but it should be similar. Make sure you get a remote. The Echo-7000 and HTS-8 could be operated without a remote, but some HTS receivers can't.

Watch what you pay. Last HTS receiver I got with remote was free. Do not remember if it was a 5 or 8 but think it was a 5 and it had a good module in it. That was from an online ad.

I had two. Both burned up the power supplies. They are very good C band analog receivers with VC II cages, and a really good positioner/signal meter, etc.

I have both the dead units available to a good home with one good remote- for the cost of shipping them if anyone wants them.

You are right about the power supplies being a problem in those things. I used to read about people burning them out all the time. The Echo-7000 I had, is pretty much the same thing as an HT-8, and my power supply was OK, but I burned out the tuner in mine, so I picked up 2 HT-8 units, one of which had a bad power supply, and I can't remember what was wrong with the other. I figured that between 3 units all of which had different problems, that I should be able to put the parts together to make one working on. So I started trading parts. I actually had one of them working for a while, but eventually, with all the guts loose in the thing I finally shorted something out and killed the power supply in the combination I had going, so I ended up with 3 dead receivers. I finally tried to mail the working remote to someone in the group, and it got lost in the mail.
